Requirements and speed limits

Use QNH. This is an RNP approach. For LNAV/VNAV, use YMML QNH and YMML temperature; the procedure temperature range is −5°C to +60°C. Holding is as directed by ATC. Maximum indicated airspeed at BELTA is 185 kt. ATC approach-speed ranges are 160–185 kt at BELTA and 150–160 kt at 5 NM from the threshold.

Route and descent

  1. Enter at BELTA, the initial approach fix, at or above 3,000 ft, 11.6 NM before RW16. The map shows ARBEY arrivals from the north, and BOYSE, BOOIN, RAZZI and ALAXO arrivals via NEFER from the east.
  2. Track 159° for 3.7 NM to ANBEM, the intermediate fix, 7.9 NM before RW16. Maintain the 3,000 ft segment minimum to ANBEM.
  3. Track 160° for 2.4 NM to AVMEL, the final approach fix, 5.5 NM before RW16. The 3° descent path runs from 3,000 ft at ANBEM to 2,240 ft at AVMEL.
  4. Continue on 160° for 5.5 NM to RW16, the missed-approach point at the threshold. RW16 is a fly-over waypoint.

Step-down minima

Threshold elevation is 432 ft and threshold crossing height is 50 ft.

Three-degree descent checks

The checks before AVMEL are distances to AVMEL. After AVMEL, distances are to RW16.

Straight-in minima

These minima apply to categories A–D. Altitudes are feet above mean sea level; the height column preserves the source’s printed values. The printed LNAV height of 456 ft equals 890 ft minus the 434 ft aerodrome elevation. The LNAV/VNAV height of 378 ft equals 810 ft minus the 432 ft threshold elevation. Keep the published altitude and height paired; they do not use the same elevation reference.

Missed approach

Fly direct to ML2NH, 3 NM beyond RW16, then track 160°. Climb to 4,000 ft, or as directed by ATC.

Circling and alternate minima

Circling altitudes are feet above mean sea level; the accompanying heights are above the 434 ft aerodrome elevation. Visibility is kilometres.

Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

Sector altitudes and map reference

The 10 NM minimum sector altitude is 3,300 ft. The 25 NM MSA, centred on the YMML aerodrome reference point, is 4,500 ft in the northern sector and 3,700 ft in the southern sector. Boundaries are labelled B-080° on the west side and B-260° on the east side. Bearings are magnetic, with 12° east variation. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. The map scale is 1:500,000, with a 0–5 NM scale bar. It covers labelled grid lines 37°30′–37°40′ S and 144°40′–145°00′ E. YMEN is Essendon Airport, south-east of Melbourne. The map prints these terrain and obstacle elevations, in feet: 2,293; 2,608; 2,195; 1,604; 1,598; 1,600; 1,468; 949; 1,021; 830; 655; 920; 687; 1,224; 1,171; 906 (two locations); 948; 817; 945; 892; 691; 1,007; 935; 808; 706; 775; 526; 564; 552; 573; 1,041; 697; 1,096.
