Authorization and equipment

This required navigation performance (RNP) approach requires authorization (AR). It is for operators approved by Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). It requires radius-to-fix (RF) capability, local QNH and local temperature. Use QNH; the procedure temperature range is −2°C to +48°C. Holding is as directed by ATC. ATC approach-speed ranges are 160–185 kt at 10 NM from the threshold and 150–160 kt at 5 NM from the threshold.

Route from EMSEK

The map shows the ALAXO arrival via PASCO to EMSEK. Maximum indicated airspeed at SUSAK is 190 kt. Cross EMSEK at or above 3,000 ft. The profile distances remaining to RW16 are 17.2 NM at EMSEK, 13.4 NM at SUSAK, 7.9 NM at AREXO and 3.3 NM at ML420. These include the curved route, not direct distance to the threshold. RW16 is a fly-over waypoint.

Three-degree descent checks

Begin the 3° descent at AREXO, at 3,000 ft. The first four distances below are to ML420 along the curved path. After ML420, distances are to RW16. Threshold elevation is 432 ft.

Straight-in minima

For categories A–D, choose the row matching the approved RNP capability. Altitudes are feet above mean sea level and heights are above threshold.

Missed approach

Track 160° to ML430, 8 NM beyond RW16, then continue on 160°. Climb to 4,000 ft, or as directed by ATC.

Circling and alternate minima

Circling is not authorized. The chart gives these alternate ceiling and visibility values:

Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

Sector altitudes and map reference

The 10 NM minimum sector altitude is 3,300 ft. The 25 NM MSA, centred on the YMML aerodrome reference point, is 4,500 ft in the northern sector and 3,700 ft in the southern sector. Boundaries are labelled R-260° on the west side and R-080° on the east side, although the centre is labelled YMML ARP on this sheet. Bearings are magnetic, with 12° east variation. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. The map scale is 1:500,000, with a 0–5 NM scale bar. It covers labelled grid lines 37°30′–37°50′ S and 144°40′–145°00′ E. YMEN is Essendon Airport, south-east of Melbourne. The map prints these terrain and obstacle elevations, in feet: 2,195; 1,604; 1,598; 1,600; 1,468; 949; 1,021; 830; 655; 920; 687; 1,224; 1,171; 906; 1,007; 948; 817; 935; 808; 775; 706; 945; 691; 564; 526; 552; 573; 1,041; 772; 697; 1,096; 657.
