Approach setup and speed limits

Use QNH. Select GLS channel 21529, identifier G27A. The final course is 263°, with a 3° glidepath. Maximum indicated airspeed at VISAS is 185 kt. The chart lists ATC approach-speed ranges of 160–185 kt at VISAS and 150–160 kt at 5 NM from the threshold.

Holding at VISAS

The entry diagram labels 083°, 153° and 333° around the holding fix. The map also labels DOKNO at 11 ML and ROCEL at 10 ML on the arrival connections, where ML is the DME reference.

Route and glidepath

Enter at VISAS at or above 2,500 ft, 8.5 NM from RW27. The chart shows ARBEY arrivals via DOKNO, BOYSE from the north-east, BOOIN from the east, RAZZI from the south-east and ALAXO via ROCEL. Follow the 263° course and 3° glidepath. The path passes MATKU at 1,670 ft, 3.8 NM from RW27. Threshold elevation is 407 ft and threshold crossing height is 50 ft. The RNP approach publishes a different MATKU path altitude; use the values for the selected procedure.

Three-degree glidepath checks

All distances below are to RW27, the runway threshold reference.

Straight-in minimum

For categories A, B, C and D/Dₗ, the GLS minimum is 610 ft above mean sea level, a 203 ft height above threshold. The chart publishes 0.8 km visibility and 550 m runway visual range (RVR).

Missed approach

Track 263° and climb to 4,000 ft, or as directed by ATC.

Circling and alternate minima

Circling altitudes are feet above mean sea level; the accompanying heights are above the 434 ft aerodrome elevation. Visibility is kilometres.

Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

Sector altitudes and map reference

The 10 NM minimum sector altitude is 3,300 ft. The 25 NM MSA, centred on the YMML aerodrome reference point, is 4,500 ft in the northern sector and 3,700 ft in the southern sector. Boundaries are labelled B-080° on the west side and B-260° on the east side. Bearings are magnetic, with 12° east variation. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. The map scale is 1:500,000, with a 0–5 NM scale bar. It covers labelled grid lines 37°30′–37°50′ S and 144°40′–145°00′ E. YMEN is Essendon Airport, south-east of Melbourne. The map prints these terrain and obstacle elevations, in feet: 1,604; 1,600; 1,468; 949; 1,021; 830; 655; 920; 687; 1,224; 1,171; 906 (two locations); 948; 1,007; 935; 775; 808; 706; 945; 817; 691; 564; 526; 552; 573; 1,041; 772; 697; 1,096; 657; 732.
