Approach setup and speed limits
Use QNH. Select GLS channel 21940, identifier G16A. The final course is 160°, with a 3° glidepath.
Maximum indicated airspeed at BELTA is 185 kt. ATC approach-speed ranges are 160–185 kt at BELTA and 150–160 kt at 5 NM from the threshold.
Holding at BELTA
The entry diagram labels 050°, 230° and 340° around the holding fix.
Route and glidepath
Enter at BELTA at or above 3,000 ft, 11.6 NM from RW16. The map shows ARBEY arrivals from the north, and BOOIN, BOYSE, RAZZI and ALAXO arrivals from the east.
Follow the 160° course and 3° glidepath. The path passes AVMEL at 2,230 ft, 5.5 NM from RW16. Threshold elevation is 432 ft and threshold crossing height is 50 ft. The RNP Z procedure publishes a different AVMEL path altitude; use the values for the selected procedure.
Aircraft may be radar-vectored to final approach, or may join the procedure from a STAR before the final approach fix.
Three-degree glidepath checks
All distances below are to RW16, the runway threshold reference.
Straight-in minimum
For categories A, B, C and D/Dₗ, the GLS minimum is 640 ft above mean sea level, a 208 ft height above threshold. The chart publishes 0.8 km visibility and 550 m runway visual range (RVR).
Missed approach
Track 160° and climb to 4,000 ft, or as directed by ATC.
Circling and alternate minima
Circling altitudes are feet above mean sea level; the accompanying heights are above the 434 ft aerodrome elevation. Visibility is kilometres.
Frequencies
All frequencies are MHz.
Sector altitudes and map reference
The 10 NM minimum sector altitude is 3,300 ft. The 25 NM MSA, centred on the YMML aerodrome reference point, is 4,500 ft in the northern sector and 3,700 ft in the southern sector. Boundaries are labelled B-080° on the west side and B-260° on the east side.
Bearings are magnetic, with 12° east variation. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. The map scale is 1:500,000, with a 0–5 NM scale bar. It covers labelled grid lines 37°30′–37°40′ S and 144°40′–145°00′ E. YMEN is Essendon Airport, south-east of Melbourne.
The map prints these terrain and obstacle elevations, in feet: 2,293; 2,195; 1,604; 1,598; 1,600; 1,468; 949; 1,021; 830; 655; 920; 687; 1,224; 1,171; 906; 948; 892; 691; 1,007; 935; 808; 706; 775; 526; 564; 552; 573; 1,041; 1,096.
