This approach follows the 348° magnetic inbound track to Canberra runway 35. The ILS has a 3° glidepath; the localizer-only procedure uses the distance and altitude checks below. Use QNH. Heights in the minima table are above the runway threshold; other elevations are feet AMSL. The chart belongs to the simulator’s fixed 3 September 2026 publication cycle. Its individual revision is 19 March 2026, chart SCBII02-186. Reconcile the chart with the simulator’s installed navigation data before use.

Radio and navigation setup

The chart requires DME or GNSS. GNSS may substitute for DME using CB VOR as the reference waypoint. Distances in the profile and tables are NM to CB DME, not distance to the runway threshold and not an instruction to substitute ICB DME. Aerodrome elevation is 1,887 ft. Runway 35 threshold elevation is 1,869 ft; reference datum height is 50 ft. The chart’s magnetic variation is 12° E.

Approach sequence

Read the selected arrival and clearance together with this approach. The plan view shows AVBEG/POLLI arrivals via the southern entry area and BUNGO/LEECE arrivals toward GIBIL. It identifies CB radial 143° and lead radial 159° in that area, a 13 NM CB arc at 6,000 ft, and an inner arc at 5,100 ft; the arrival procedure determines the route to the approach. The 3° altitude checks are a separate table. Do not confuse those calculated path values with the localizer procedure altitudes printed in the profile.

3° approach-path altitude checks

Holding at MOMBI

The hold is right-hand with an inbound track of 348°, a DME limit of 14 NM CB at 5,100 ft. The 5,600 ft row specifies a 1-minute time and no DME limit; the 5,100 ft row has no time specified. The chart depicts 098°, 168° and 278° sector boundaries around the holding pattern. Aircraft holding at MOMBI may begin descent once established inbound on the approach. This note does not remove the approach’s altitude restrictions.

Missed approach

Track 348°. Climb to 5,100 ft, or as directed by ATC. The localizer missed approach begins at 2.9 NM CB DME. The selected ILS minima determine the required initial missed-approach gradient: apply that gradient to 3,200 ft, then 2.5%.

Minima

The straight-in minima apply to categories A–D. Visibility is in kilometres; RVR is in metres. Parentheses contain height above the runway threshold for straight-in minima and the chart’s published height/visibility notation for circling and alternate minima. No circling beyond 4 NM west of runway 17/35. The chart also directs readers to the special notices for its use of colour.

Terrain, airspace and minimum sector altitudes

The 10 NM MSA is 5,100 ft, referenced to CB VOR or NDB. The 25 NM MSA diagram divides the surrounding area at CB radials 305°, 070° and 255°: 4,600 ft in the northern/eastern sector from 305° clockwise to 070°, 7,500 ft from 070° clockwise to 255°, and 5,900 ft from 255° clockwise to 305°. The plan view marks R450A with upper limit 3,500 ft and lower limit SFC, R450B 4,500/3,500 ft, R450C 8,000/4,500 ft. Their boundaries and the surrounding terrain still require a complete text description. These airspace labels do not provide clearance to enter them. The charted spot elevations include 2,226, 2,241, 2,289, 2,425, 2,506, 2,565, 2,604, 2,641, 2,667, 2,810, 2,839, 2,880, 2,944, 3,020, 3,245, 3,311, 3,344, 3,543 and 3,671 ft. Use the procedure altitudes and restrictions; a list of spot elevations is not terrain clearance. Source: © Airservices Australia, Departure and Approach Procedures, SCBII02-186.
