Sydney/Kingsford Smith (YSSY) has aerodrome elevation 21 ft and reference coordinates 33°56′46″ S, 151°10′38″ E. The international terminal is west of runway 16R/34L. The domestic area is east of that runway, north of runway 07/25. The shorter parallel runway, 16L/34R, extends south into Botany Bay to the east of the main runway.

Runways

These are physical runway dimensions from the layout, not declared takeoff or landing distances. All three runways are 45 m wide and grooved. Runway 07/25 crosses 16R/34L. Runway 16L/34R is separate, connected to the main airport by taxiway L and the northern connection near B10 and S.

Taxiway and apron orientation

  • A follows the west side of 16R/34L, beside the international terminal; the layout labels A1–A6 connections. International apron areas are labelled INTL1–INTL6, with international cargo near the northern end.
  • B follows the east side of 16R/34L; connections B1–B10 are labelled. C lies farther east toward the domestic aprons, with C1 and C2 marked in the northern part.
  • F, G and H connect the terminal-side movement areas around the runway intersection. J runs south of runway 07/25, with K farther south on the domestic side. D connects the domestic side toward the cross runway; E is near threshold 25.
  • L provides the southern east–west connection across 16R/34L toward the eastern parallel runway. S joins the northern part of the 16L/34R taxiway system. T follows that runway, with T1–T6 connections shown.
  • Domestic apron labels are DOM1, DOM1A, DOM2, DOM3, DOM3A, DOM3B, DOM4, DOM5 and DOM6. The helicopter area is near threshold 25. The tower is south of runway 07/25 between the main and eastern runway systems.
Use the assigned taxi route and runway clearance; this orientation does not authorize a crossing. Detailed aircraft restrictions are in the ground movement chart.

Runway-incursion hot spots

The chart enlarges two areas:
  1. The runway 07/25–16R/34L intersection and nearby A, B, G, H and J connections. Taxiway crossings and runway entry points are close together; identify the precise holding point on the cleared route.
  2. The A4–B10–L area crossing runway 16R/34L. A4 and L are distinct paths on the west side, with B10 and L on the east side; do not substitute one crossing for another.
The diagram marks localizers, glidepath installations and DME sites around the runway ends. The six glidepath/nearby installation labels are 53 ft near 16R, 57 ft near 34L, 62 ft near 16L, 59 ft near 34R, 62 ft near 07 and 61 ft near 25. Other obstacle/elevation labels include 226, 190, 178, 71 and 171 ft. These map labels are not approach minima or PAPI heights.

Frequencies

All frequencies below are MHz. Select the surface-movement and tower frequency for the relevant part of the airport.

Map conventions

Bearings are magnetic, with 13° east variation; elevations are feet above mean sea level. The scale is 1:40,000, with a metre scale bar. Buildings, runway markings, navigation installations and obstacle positions still require a complete text description. For runway directions and lighting, see aerodrome lighting.
