Requirements and speed limits

Use QNH. This is an RNP approach. For LNAV/VNAV, use YMML QNH and YMML temperature; the procedure temperature range is −5°C to +60°C. Holding is as directed by ATC. Maximum indicated airspeed at VISAS is 185 kt. The chart lists ATC approach-speed ranges of 160–185 kt at VISAS and 150–160 kt at 5 NM from the threshold.

Route and descent

  1. Enter at VISAS, the initial/intermediate approach fix, at or above 2,500 ft, 8.5 NM before RW27. The diagram shows ARBEY arrivals from the north, BOYSE from the north-east, BOOIN from the east, RAZZI from the south-east and ALAXO from the south.
  2. Track 262° for 4.7 NM to MATKU, the final approach fix. The 3° descent path starts from 2,500 ft, 2.6 NM before MATKU, and passes MATKU at 1,660 ft.
  3. Continue on 263° for 3.8 NM to RW27, the missed-approach point at the threshold. RW27 is a fly-over waypoint.
The profile gives a 1,500 ft step-down minimum before MATKU. After MATKU, descend to the applicable minimum. Threshold elevation is 407 ft and threshold crossing height is 50 ft.

Three-degree descent checks

Distances before MATKU are to MATKU; subsequent distances are to RW27.

Straight-in minima

These minima apply to categories A–D. Altitudes are feet above mean sea level; heights are above the runway threshold.

Missed approach

Fly direct to ML2EH, 3 NM beyond RW27, then track 263°. Climb to 4,000 ft, or as directed by ATC.

Circling and alternate minima

Circling altitudes are feet above mean sea level; the accompanying heights are above the 434 ft aerodrome elevation. Visibility is kilometres.

Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

Sector altitudes and map reference

The 10 NM minimum sector altitude is 3,300 ft. The 25 NM MSA, centred on the YMML aerodrome reference point, is 4,500 ft in the northern sector and 3,700 ft in the southern sector. Boundaries are labelled B-080° on the west side and B-260° on the east side. Bearings are magnetic, with 12° east variation. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. The map scale is 1:500,000, with a 0–5 NM scale bar. It covers labelled grid lines 37°30′–37°50′ S and 144°40′–145°10′ E. YMEN is Essendon Airport, south-east of Melbourne. The map prints these terrain and obstacle elevations, in feet: 1,224; 1,171; 906 (two locations); 1,600; 1,468; 949; 1,021; 830; 655; 920; 687; 1,007; 948; 817; 945; 892; 808; 775; 706; 691; 564; 526; 552; 573; 1,041; 697; 1,096; 657; 732.
