This is the lighting and operating-notes page accompanying the Canberra aerodrome layout. It is chart SCBAD02-183, revised 12 June 2025, retained in the fixed publication cycle effective 3 September 2026. Canberra’s reference position is 35°18′25″S, 149°11′42″E, with aerodrome elevation 1,887 ft AMSL. Bearings are magnetic and elevations are feet AMSL.

Runway lighting

PAPI is the precision approach path indicator. HIRL and MIRL identify high- and medium-intensity runway lighting; RCLL is runway centreline lighting, RTZL is runway touchdown-zone lighting, and HIAL is high-intensity approach lighting. RVR identifies the runway visual range provision shown in the source table. The PAPI heights above are reproduced as printed; they are not approach decision heights.

Aerodrome and taxiway lighting

  • The aerodrome beacon is on Mount Ainslie, alternating white and green at 8-second intervals.
  • Taxiway centreline lights are green. Blue edge lighting is provided at the runway 17 turning node only. Stop bars and runway guard lights are also listed.
  • Radio lighting uses AFRU + PAL on 118.7 MHz after hours. Emergency operation is manual. The published standby switchover time is 1 second.

Turning and taxiway restriction

The runway 35 turning node at the northern end is designed for the normal turning radius of a Boeing 777-300. Aircraft make a 180° clockwise turn. Nosewheel line markings are provided. Contact ATC on 118.7 MHz for follow-me service. Taxiway A is unavailable to code D and larger aircraft unless the aircraft operator has a CASA exemption. This restriction is separate from the turning-node capability.
