Set up the approach
Tune ISW ILS/DME, 109.7 MHz, with final approach course 242°. The ILS requires DME or GNSS; a localizer-only approach requires DME. Aircraft may be radar vectored to the final approach.
JELLI is 10 ISW DME and 9.8 NM from the threshold. PEGBA is 5 ISW DME and 4.8 NM from the threshold. Use ISW DME for the descent checks and localizer step-down points below.
Final approach
The profile shows a 3,000 ft level segment into JELLI, followed by a 3° glidepath on 242°. The path altitude at PEGBA is 1,610 ft. Reference datum height is 48 ft.
Localizer-only descent
Observe these minimum altitudes until reaching each step-down point. The path altitudes above are separate descent checks.
The localizer missed approach point is 1.2 ISW DME. The chart labels the 2.9 ISW DME step as 2.8 NM from the threshold, and the 2.2 ISW DME step as 2 NM from the threshold. These are the printed pairs; use the specified DME step-down distances rather than applying a single offset to all values.
Straight-in minima
These minima apply to categories A, B, C and D/DL.
A special alternate minimum of 700 ft / 2.5 km is printed. It does not apply to the localizer/DME approach.
Missed approach
Track 242° and climb to 3,000 ft, or as directed by ATC.
Speeds and holding
Cross JELLI at no more than 185 kt indicated airspeed and PEGBA at no less than 150 kt. The chart’s ATC approach speed ranges are 160–185 kt at JELLI and 150–160 kt at PEGBA. Holding is as directed by ATC; the chart does not specify a holding pattern.
Circling and alternate minima
Do not circle beyond 3 DME from SY, east of runway 16R and north of runway 25. The distance for this restriction is from SY DME, not the runway threshold or the approach’s distance reference.
Frequencies
All radio frequencies are MHz.
Terrain and chart conventions
Use QNH. Altitudes and elevations are feet above mean sea level; tracks are magnetic. The chart shows 13° east magnetic variation and a 1:500,000 map scale. Aerodrome elevation is 21 ft and runway 25 threshold elevation is 20 ft.
The 25 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,700 ft and the 10 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,100 ft, both centred on the YSSY aerodrome reference point.
The map’s labelled obstacle and spot elevations are 160, 190, 250, 255, 259, 299, 306, 320, 385, 389, 421, 430, 545, 641, 677, 725, 862, 887, 894, 1,001, 1,074 and 1,085 ft. Their geographic placement still requires a complete text description.
