Requirements and speed limits
Use QNH. This is an RNP approach. For LNAV/VNAV, use YMML QNH and YMML temperature; the procedure temperature range is −5°C to +60°C. Holding is as directed by ATC.
Maximum indicated airspeed at GUPUG is 185 kt. The chart lists ATC approach-speed ranges of 160–185 kt at GUPUG and 150–160 kt at 5 NM from the threshold.
Route and descent
- Enter at GUPUG, the initial/intermediate approach fix, between 3,000 and 4,000 ft. The chart shows ALAXO and PORTS arrivals joining from the west, and BOOIN, BOYSE, RAZZI and ARBEY arrivals joining from the north.
- Track 083° for 6.7 NM to PAPGA, the final approach fix. The profile starts the 3° descent at 8 NM before ML2WM, from 3,000 ft.
- Cross PAPGA at 1,800 ft on the published descent path, then track 083° for 4 NM to ML2WM, the missed-approach point. ML2WM is a fly-over waypoint.
The step-down profile shows 3,000 ft before PAPGA, 1,800 ft from PAPGA to 3 NM before ML2WM, then 1,400 ft before descent to the applicable minimum. The 1,480 ft value at 3 NM is a descent-path check, distinct from the 1,400 ft step-down minimum.
Runway 09 threshold is 0.3 NM beyond ML2WM. Threshold elevation is 395 ft and threshold crossing height is 50 ft.
Three-degree descent checks
The first four distances are to PAPGA. After PAPGA, distances are to ML2WM.
Straight-in minima
These minima apply to categories A–D. Altitudes are feet above mean sea level; heights are above the runway threshold.
Missed approach
Fly direct to ML2WH, 3 NM beyond ML2WM, then track 083°. Climb to 4,000 ft, or as directed by ATC.
Circling and alternate minima
Circling altitudes are feet above mean sea level; the accompanying heights are above the 434 ft aerodrome elevation. Visibility is kilometres.
Frequencies
All frequencies are MHz.
Sector altitudes and map reference
The 10 NM minimum sector altitude is 3,300 ft. The 25 NM MSA, centred on the YMML aerodrome reference point, is 4,500 ft in the northern sector and 3,700 ft in the southern sector. Boundaries are labelled B-080° on the west side and B-260° on the east side.
Bearings are magnetic, with 12° east variation. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. The map scale is 1:500,000, with a 0–5 NM scale bar. It covers labelled grid lines 37°30′–37°50′ S and 144°40′–145°00′ E. YMEN is Essendon Airport, south-east of Melbourne.
The map prints these terrain and obstacle elevations, in feet: 2,195; 1,604; 1,598; 1,600; 1,468; 949; 1,021; 830; 920; 687; 655; 1,007; 775; 935; 808; 706; 948; 906; 1,171; 564; 526; 552; 573; 1,041; 772; 1,096; 657. Their geographic positions have not yet been fully transcribed into this text.
