# Access and authentication

> The Narev Pricing API is free and public. Pricing endpoints do not require an API key.

The Pricing API endpoints in this reference are public. You do not need an account, an API key, or an `Authorization` header.

## Application library compatibility

The current `@ai-billing/narev` client interface still requires an `apiKey` option. That library interface does not mean the public REST API requires authentication. Use direct REST requests for keyless access. For middleware, use provider-reported costs or a verified static price map as described in the [AI-billing quickstart](https://www.narev.ai/docs/ai-billing/quickstart.md).
