# Sydney ATIS

> Approach expectations, runway information and coordinator messages for the Sydney ATIS.

Sydney’s ATIS describes the approach type, runway mode and any additional operating instructions. Independent visual approaches are available only during parallel runway operations (PROPS). During single-runway operations, use regular visual approaches and leave the ATIS approach field blank.

## Approach expectations

| Cloud base | Visibility | Approach information |
| - | - | - |
| Above 3,000 ft | More than 5,000 m | Expect independent visual approaches. Do not pass through the assigned runway centreline. |
| Between 2,000 and 3,000 ft | More than 5,000 m | Expect an instrument approach, then an independent visual approach when visual. Do not pass through the assigned runway centreline. |
| Below 2,000 ft, or visibility below 5,000 m | As indicated by either condition | Expect an instrument approach. |

## Runway information

| Mode | Information to include |
| - | - |
| 16 PROPS | Runways 16L and 16R for arrivals and departures. |
| 34 PROPS | Runways 34L and 34R for arrivals and departures. |
| SODPROPS | Runway 34L for arrivals and runway 16L for departures. Runway 34L is available for departure if operationally required or directed by ATC. |

## Operational information

Independent parallel departures permit two simultaneous departures on parallel runways. That statement alone does **not** permit independent simultaneous arrivals without the prescribed separation minima.

| Condition | Operational information |
| - | - |
| Independent visual approaches expected | Independent parallel approaches and departures in progress. |
| Instrument approaches expected, including instrument approaches followed by independent visual approaches when visual | Independent parallel departures in progress. |
| Simultaneous opposite-direction parallel operations | Simultaneous opposite-direction parallel runway operations in progress. |
| Curfew mode during AEST | Curfew runway nomination; curfew in operation until time 2000. |
| Curfew mode during AEDT | Curfew runway nomination; curfew in operation until time 1900. |

The source’s operational-information table labels its opposite-direction mode “SODROPS”; the runway-information table labels the mode “SODPROPS”. The times above are retained exactly as published in that source table.

## Coordinator messages

When the coordinator is online, include an instruction to **contact the coordinator on 127.6 MHz when ready for pushback or taxi**.

If start approval is also required, say that start approval is required and instruct aircraft to **contact Sydney coordinator on 127.6 MHz for a start time when ready for pushback or engine start**. See the [coordinator procedure](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/sydney/procedures/workload-management.md#sydney-coordinator).
