# Sydney Four radar departure

> Sydney Four radar departure.

This radar departure uses runway-specific initial tracks and turn conditions, followed by the assigned heading or track and radar vectors. **During parallel runway operations, do not turn toward the other runway.** Maximum IAS is **250 kt below 10,000 ft**.

## Initial runway instructions

| Runway | Initial magnetic track | Climb gradient | Earliest turn condition |
| - | -: | - | - |
| 07 | 062° | 5% to 1,500 ft, then 3.3% | Non-jet: 600 ft; jet: 800 ft |
| 16R | 155° | 3.3% | Non-jet: 600 ft; jet: 800 ft |
| 16L | 155° | 3.3% | 500 ft for all aircraft |
| 25 | 242° | 3.9% to 300 ft, then 3.3% | Non-jet: 800 ft; jet: not before 1,500 ft |
| 34R | 335° | 4.8% to 1,500 ft, then 3.3% | 500 ft for all aircraft |
| 34L | 335° | 3.3% | Non-jet: 600 ft; jet: 800 ft; **no right turn below 1,500 ft** |

At the specified condition, turn to the **assigned heading or track**, respecting the parallel-runway restriction. Expect radar vectors to the cleared route. The 34L right-turn restriction is additional to the general turn altitude.

## Departure-area cautions

The diagram warns of **trees in the departure areas**, and specifically **man-made obstacles in the 34R departure area**. It depicts **Bankstown control zone (BK CTR) from the surface to 1,500 ft** west of Sydney. Sydney DME uses identifier **SY**, frequency **112.1 MHz**.

## OLSEM–Y193–BANDA requirement

For aircraft cleared via **OLSEM–Y193–BANDA**, reach:

| Distance remaining to BANDA | Required flight level |
| - | - |
| By 156 NM | FL180 |
| By 144 NM | FL220 |
| By 110 NM | FL250 |

**Advise ATC if unable to comply.**

## WLM and MATLA requirements

* If cleared via **WLM at or above FL130**, reach **FL130 by 31 NM from WLM NDB**.
* If cleared via **PUDUT–MATLA at or above FL130**, reach **FL130 by 15 NM from PUDUT**, and **FL160 by PUDUT**.

Advise ATC if unable to comply.

## Radio failure

On recognizing a communications failure:

1. Set transponder code **7600**.
2. Maintain the **last assigned vector for two minutes**. If necessary, climb to minimum safe altitude to maintain terrain clearance.
3. Then proceed using the **latest acknowledged ATC route clearance**.

## Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 118.55 |
| Airways clearance delivery | 133.8 |
| Surface movement east of runway 16R/34L | 121.7 |
| Surface movement west of runway 16R/34L | 126.5 |
| Tower: 16R/34L and 07/25 | 120.5 |
| Tower: 16L/34R | 124.7 |
| Departure north: north and east routes | 123.0 |
| Departure south: south, west and northwest routes | 129.7 |

## Sector altitudes and chart conventions

The **25 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,700 ft**, centred on the **YSSY aerodrome reference point**. The **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,100 ft**. Bearings are magnetic, with **13° east** variation. Altitudes are feet above mean sea level unless a flight level is stated. These route diagrams are **not to scale**.
