# RNP approach to Sydney runway 34L

> RNP approach to Sydney runway 34L.

## Set up the approach

This is an **RNP APCH** procedure. Use **QNH**. For **LNAV/VNAV**, **YSSY QNH and temperature are required**; the procedure temperature range is **0°C to +61°C**.

The final approach course is **335°**. Profile distances are to **SYDSM**, the missed approach point at the runway threshold.

## Route and altitude restrictions

| Point or segment | Distance to SYDSM | Restriction or instruction |
| - | - | - |
| SOSIJ, initial approach fix | 12.7 NM | At or above 3,000 ft; track 335° to SYDSF |
| SOSIJ to the 9.8 NM point | Ends at 9.8 NM | Minimum altitude 2,700 ft |
| 9.8 NM point to SYDSF | Ends at 5.8 NM | Minimum altitude 1,600 ft |
| SYDSF, final approach fix | 5.8 NM | Path altitude 1,900 ft; track 335° to SYDSM |
| SYDSF to the 3 NM point | Ends at 3 NM | Minimum altitude 850 ft; path altitude at the end is 1,020 ft |
| After the 3 NM point | To SYDSM | Observe the selected LNAV/VNAV or LNAV minimum |

The map labels **SOSIJ–SYDSF as 7 NM** and **SYDSF–SYDSM as 5.8 NM**. The profile distances above are reproduced as printed.

## Speeds and holding

Maximum initial and holding indicated airspeed is **210 kt**. Cross **SYDSF at no less than 150 kt**. ATC approach speed ranges are **160–185 kt at 10 NM from touchdown** and **150–160 kt at SYDSF**.

Hold at **SOSIJ** with inbound track **335°**, **left turns**, **one-minute legs**, and a minimum altitude of **3,000 ft**. The outbound track shown is **155°**. No DME holding limit is printed.

## Descent checks

These are altitudes on the **3° path**. The distance reference changes at **SYDSF**: read the reference column before using a distance. Threshold crossing height is **50 ft**.

| Distance reference | Distance or position | Path altitude |
| - | - | - |
| To SYDSF | 3.4 NM | 3,000 ft |
| To SYDSF | 3 NM | 2,860 ft |
| To SYDSF | 2 NM | 2,540 ft |
| To SYDSF | 1 NM | 2,220 ft |
| At SYDSF | Final approach fix | 1,900 ft |
| To SYDSM | 5 NM | 1,660 ft |
| To SYDSM | 4 NM | 1,340 ft |
| To SYDSM | 3 NM | 1,020 ft |
| To SYDSM | 2 NM | 700 ft |
| To SYDSM | 1.2 NM | 450 ft |
| To SYDSM | 1 NM | 370 ft |

## Straight-in minima

These minima apply to categories **A, B, C and D**. Published heights are retained separately from altitudes.

| Approach | Minimum altitude | Published height | Visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| LNAV/VNAV | Decision altitude 370 ft | 356 ft | 1.6 km |
| LNAV | Minimum descent altitude 450 ft | 436 ft | 2.0 km |

## Missed approach

Track **335°**. At **500 ft**, turn **left**, direct to **SYDSH**, then track **320°**. Climb to **3,000 ft**, or as directed by ATC.

The profile places **SYDSH**, the missed approach holding fix, **3 NM beyond SYDSM**.

## Circling and alternate minima

Do not circle **beyond 3 DME from SY, east of runway 16R and north of runway 25**. Measure this restriction from **SY DME**.

| Category | Circling minimum altitude | Height above aerodrome | Visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| A and B | 790 ft | 769 ft | 2.4 km |
| C | 1,000 ft | 979 ft | 4.0 km |
| D | 1,000 ft | 979 ft | 5.0 km |

| Category | Alternate ceiling | Alternate visibility |
| - | - | - |
| A and B | 1,269 ft | 4.4 km |
| C | 1,479 ft | 6.0 km |
| D | 1,479 ft | 7.0 km |

## Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 118.55 |
| Approach north | 124.4 |
| Approach south | 128.3 |
| Director east | 125.3 |
| Director west | 126.1 |
| Tower | 120.5 |
| Surface movement east of runway 16R/34L | 121.7 |
| Surface movement west of runway 16R/34L | 126.5 |

## Terrain and chart conventions

Use **QNH**. Bearings are magnetic, with **13° east** variation. Altitudes and elevations are feet above mean sea level unless identified as radio-altimeter readings or heights. The map scale is **1:500,000**. Aerodrome elevation is **21 ft**; runway 34L threshold elevation is **14 ft**.

The **25 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,700 ft** and the **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,100 ft**, centred on the **YSSY aerodrome reference point**.

The map labels obstacle and spot elevations of **160, 190, 250, 255, 259, 299, 306, 320, 385, 389, 421, 430, 641, 725, 862, 887 and 1,085 ft**. Their geographic placement still requires a complete text description.

Chart **SSYGN04-187**, revised **9 July 2026**, from the fixed publication cycle effective **3 September 2026**.
