# RNP approach to Sydney runway 25

> RNP approach to Sydney runway 25.

## Set up the approach

This is an **RNP APCH** procedure. Use **QNH**. For **LNAV/VNAV**, **YSSY QNH and temperature are required**; the procedure temperature range is **0°C to +61°C**.

The final approach course is **242°**. The missed approach point **SSYEM** is at the runway threshold. Profile distances are to SSYEM unless another reference is stated.

## Route and altitude restrictions

| Point or segment | Distance to SSYEM | Instruction or restriction |
| - | - | - |
| JELLI, initial approach fix | 9.9 NM | At or above 3,000 ft; track 242° to SSYEF |
| JELLI to SSYEF | Ends at 4.8 NM | Minimum altitude 1,500 ft |
| SSYEF, final approach fix | 4.8 NM | Path altitude 1,590 ft |
| SSYEF to the 2.2 NM point | Ends at 2.2 NM | Minimum altitude 740 ft; path altitude at 2.2 NM is 770 ft |
| After the 2.2 NM point | To SSYEM | Observe the applicable LNAV/VNAV or LNAV minimum |
| SSYEM, missed approach point | 0 NM | Threshold crossing height 50 ft on the 3° path |

The leg from **JELLI to SSYEF is 5.1 NM**, followed by **4.8 NM to SSYEM**, both on track **242°**.

## Descent checks

The chart changes the distance reference at SSYEF. The first group is distance **to SSYEF**; the second is distance **to SSYEM**.

| Distance reference | Distance | Altitude on the 3° path |
| - | - | - |
| To SSYEF | 4.4 NM | 3,000 ft |
| To SSYEF | 4 NM | 2,860 ft |
| To SSYEF | 3 NM | 2,550 ft |
| To SSYEF | 2 NM | 2,230 ft |
| To SSYEF | 1 NM | 1,910 ft |
| At SSYEF | 0 NM | 1,590 ft |
| To SSYEM | 4 NM | 1,340 ft |
| To SSYEM | 3 NM | 1,030 ft |
| To SSYEM | 2.2 NM | 770 ft |
| To SSYEM | 1.4 NM | 530 ft |
| To SSYEM | 1 NM | 380 ft |

## Straight-in minima

These minima apply to categories **A, B, C and D**.

| Approach | Minimum altitude | Published height | Visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| LNAV/VNAV | Decision altitude 380 ft | 360 ft above threshold | 2.0 km |
| LNAV | Minimum descent altitude 530 ft | 509 ft above aerodrome | 2.9 km |

## Missed approach

Track **direct to SSYEH**, the missed approach holding fix **3 NM beyond SSYEM**. Then track **242°** and climb to **3,000 ft**, or as directed by ATC.

## Speeds and holding

Cross **JELLI at no more than 185 kt indicated airspeed** and **SSYEF at no less than 150 kt**. The chart’s ATC approach speed ranges are **160–185 kt at JELLI** and **150–160 kt at SSYEF**. Holding is as directed by ATC; the chart does not specify a holding pattern.

## Circling and alternate minima

Do not circle **beyond 3 DME from SY, east of runway 16R and north of runway 25**. The distance for this restriction is from **SY DME**, not the runway threshold or the approach’s distance reference.

| Aircraft category | Circling minimum altitude | Height above aerodrome | Visibility | Alternate ceiling / visibility |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| A and B | 790 ft | 769 ft | 2.4 km | 1,269 ft / 4.4 km |
| C | 1,000 ft | 979 ft | 4.0 km | 1,479 ft / 6.0 km |
| D | 1,000 ft | 979 ft | 5.0 km | 1,479 ft / 7.0 km |

## Frequencies

All radio frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 118.55 |
| Approach north | 124.4 |
| Approach south | 128.3 |
| Director east | 125.3 |
| Director west | 126.1 |
| Tower | 120.5 |
| Surface movement east of runway 16R/34L | 121.7 |
| Surface movement west of runway 16R/34L | 126.5 |

## Terrain and chart conventions

Use **QNH**. Altitudes and elevations are feet above mean sea level; tracks are magnetic. The chart shows **13° east** magnetic variation and a **1:500,000** map scale. Aerodrome elevation is **21 ft** and runway 25 threshold elevation is **20 ft**.

The **25 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,700 ft** and the **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,100 ft**, both centred on the **YSSY aerodrome reference point**.

The map’s labelled obstacle and spot elevations are **160, 190, 250, 255, 259, 266, 299, 306, 320, 385, 389, 421, 430, 545, 641, 659, 677, 684, 725, 755, 862, 867, 887, 894, 1,001, 1,074 and 1,085 ft**. Their geographic placement still requires a complete text description.

Chart **SSYGN06-187**, revised **9 July 2026**, from the fixed publication cycle effective **3 September 2026**.
