# RNP approach to Sydney runway 16R

> RNP approach to Sydney runway 16R.

## Set up the approach

This is an **RNP APCH** procedure. Use **QNH**. For **LNAV/VNAV**, **YSSY QNH and temperature are required**; the procedure temperature range is **0°C to +61°C**.

The final approach course is **155°**. Profile distances are to **SYDNM**, the missed approach point at the runway threshold.

## Route and altitude restrictions

| Point or segment | Distance to SYDNM | Restriction or instruction |
| - | - | - |
| URDEN, initial/intermediate fix | 11.2 NM | At or above 3,000 ft; track 155° to SYDNF, a 6 NM leg |
| URDEN to the 6.2 NM point | Ends at 6.2 NM | Minimum altitude 2,000 ft; path altitude at the end is 2,020 ft |
| 6.2 NM point to SYDNF | Ends at 5.2 NM | Minimum altitude 1,700 ft |
| SYDNF, final approach fix | 5.2 NM | Path altitude 1,700 ft; track 155° to SYDNM, a 5.2 NM leg |
| SYDNF to the 4.6 NM point | Ends at 4.6 NM | Minimum altitude 1,500 ft; path altitude at the end is 1,520 ft |
| 4.6 NM point to the 3 NM point | Ends at 3 NM | Minimum altitude 1,000 ft; path altitude at the end is 1,010 ft |
| After the 3 NM point | To SYDNM | Observe the selected LNAV/VNAV or LNAV minimum |

## Speeds and holding

Cross **URDEN at no more than 185 kt indicated airspeed** and **SYDNF at no less than 150 kt**. ATC approach speed ranges are **160–185 kt at URDEN** and **150–160 kt at SYDNF**. Holding is as directed by ATC. On the missed approach, the maximum is **200 kt until SYDNH**.

## Descent checks

These are altitudes on the **3° path**. The distance reference changes at **SYDNF**: read the reference column before using a distance. Threshold crossing height is **50 ft**.

| Distance reference | Distance or position | Path altitude |
| - | - | - |
| To SYDNF | 4.1 NM | 3,000 ft |
| To SYDNF | 4 NM | 2,980 ft |
| To SYDNF | 3 NM | 2,660 ft |
| To SYDNF | 2 NM | 2,340 ft |
| To SYDNF | 1 NM | 2,020 ft |
| At SYDNF | Final approach fix | 1,700 ft |
| To SYDNM | 4.6 NM | 1,520 ft |
| To SYDNM | 4 NM | 1,330 ft |
| To SYDNM | 3 NM | 1,010 ft |
| To SYDNM | 2 NM | 690 ft |
| To SYDNM | 1.5 NM | 520 ft |
| To SYDNM | 1 NM | 370 ft |

## Straight-in minima

These minima apply to categories **A, B, C and D**. Published heights are retained separately from altitudes.

| Approach | Minimum altitude | Published height | Visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| LNAV/VNAV | Decision altitude 370 ft | 363 ft | 1.2 km |
| LNAV | Minimum descent altitude 520 ft | 513 ft | 2.1 km |

## Missed approach

Track **155°**. At **600 ft**, turn **right**, direct to **SYDNH**, then track **170°**. Climb to **3,000 ft**, or as directed by ATC. Keep indicated airspeed at or below **200 kt until SYDNH**.

The profile places **SYDNH**, the missed approach holding fix, **5.5 NM beyond SYDNM**.

## Circling and alternate minima

Do not circle **beyond 3 DME from SY, east of runway 16R and north of runway 25**. Measure this restriction from **SY DME**.

| Category | Circling minimum altitude | Height above aerodrome | Visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| A and B | 790 ft | 769 ft | 2.4 km |
| C | 1,000 ft | 979 ft | 4.0 km |
| D | 1,000 ft | 979 ft | 5.0 km |

| Category | Alternate ceiling | Alternate visibility |
| - | - | - |
| A and B | 1,269 ft | 4.4 km |
| C | 1,479 ft | 6.0 km |
| D | 1,479 ft | 7.0 km |

## Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 118.55 |
| Approach north | 124.4 |
| Approach south | 128.3 |
| Director east | 125.3 |
| Director west | 126.1 |
| Tower | 120.5 |
| Surface movement east of runway 16R/34L | 121.7 |
| Surface movement west of runway 16R/34L | 126.5 |

## Terrain and chart conventions

Use **QNH**. Bearings are magnetic, with **13° east** variation. Altitudes and elevations are feet above mean sea level unless identified as radio-altimeter readings or heights. The map scale is **1:500,000**. Aerodrome elevation is **21 ft**; runway 16R threshold elevation is **7 ft**.

The **25 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,700 ft** and the **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,100 ft**, centred on the **YSSY aerodrome reference point**.

The map labels obstacle and spot elevations of **160, 190, 250, 255, 259, 266, 299, 306, 320, 385, 389, 421, 430, 545, 641, 659, 677, 684, 725, 755, 862, 867, 887, 894, 1,001, 1,074 and 1,085 ft**. Their geographic placement still requires a complete text description.

Nearby aerodromes **YSBK** and **YFIW** are labelled on the map.

Chart **SSYGN03-188**, revised **3 September 2026**, from the fixed publication cycle effective **3 September 2026**.
