# Runway 34R ILS with special authorization

> Runway 34R ILS with special authorization.

## Approach setup and route

Tune **IKN ILS/DME, 109.3 MHz**, with final course **335°**. **GNSS is required**.

The initial profile altitude is **2,000 ft**. During PRM operations, expect to intercept the localizer **before ENDEV at 2,000 ft**.

| Fix | IKN DME | Distance to threshold | Role |
| - | - | - | - |
| ENDEV | 13 NM | 12.8 NM | Initial approach reference |
| BOBIG | 8.3 NM | 8.1 NM | Maximum 185 kt indicated airspeed |
| OLSOG | 5 NM | 4.8 NM | Path altitude 1,600 ft; minimum 150 kt indicated airspeed |

Follow the **3° glidepath**; reference datum height is **50 ft**. **Aircraft lining up can cause false glidepath indications.**

## Speeds and holding

The ATC approach speed ranges are **160–185 kt at BOBIG** and **150–160 kt at OLSOG**. On the missed approach, keep indicated airspeed at or below **185 kt until SSYSH**. Holding is as directed by ATC.

## Descent checks

The following altitudes are on the **3° glidepath**, with distances referenced to **IKN DME**.

| DME distance | Path altitude |
| - | - |
| 6.3 NM | 2,000 ft |
| 6 NM | 1,920 ft |
| 5 NM | 1,600 ft |
| 4 NM | 1,280 ft |
| 3 NM | 960 ft |
| 2 NM | 650 ft |
| 1 NM | 330 ft |

## Minima and missed-approach gradients

These minima apply to categories **A, B, C and D**. **RA** is the radio-altimeter value; **DA** is barometric decision altitude. Heights are above threshold; runway visual range (**RVR**) is in metres.

| Authorization | RA | DA | Height | RVR | Required missed-approach climb gradient |
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
| Special authorization Category II | 101 ft | 113 ft | 100 ft | 600 m | 3.7% |
| Special authorization Category I | 158 ft | 163 ft | 150 ft | 650 m | 3.4% |

## Missed approach

Track **direct to SSYST**, then turn **right**, direct to **SSYSH**. From SSYSH, track **060°**. Climb to **4,000 ft**, or as directed by ATC. Maintain **no more than 185 kt until SSYSH** and the climb gradient required for the selected minima.

The profile places **SSYST 2 NM beyond the threshold**, with **1.8 NM** on the IKN DME reference line. SSYSH is the next fix; no distance to it is printed on this sheet.

## Authorization and parallel approaches

**Special aircrew and aircraft certification is required** for these minima. Circling is **not available**. Sydney has closely spaced parallel runways. Simultaneous approaches are authorized with runway **34L** under the [precision runway monitoring instructions](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/sydney/charts/precision-runway-monitoring.md).

During PRM operations, **dual VHF communications are required**. Transmit on tower frequency and monitor both tower and PRM; the local PRM guide includes participation, receiver setup and break-out instructions.

Aircraft may be radar vectored to final approach.

## Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 118.55 |
| Approach north | 124.4 |
| Approach south | 128.3 |
| Director east | 125.3 |
| Director west | 126.1 |
| PRM | 133.95 |
| Tower | 124.7 |
| Surface movement east of runway 16R/34L | 121.7 |
| Surface movement west of runway 16R/34L | 126.5 |

## Terrain and chart conventions

Use **QNH**. Bearings are magnetic, with **13° east** variation. Altitudes and elevations are feet above mean sea level unless identified as radio-altimeter readings or heights. The map scale is **1:500,000**. Aerodrome elevation is **21 ft**; runway 34R threshold elevation is **13 ft**.

The **25 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,700 ft** and the **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,100 ft**, centred on the **YSSY aerodrome reference point**.

The map labels obstacle and spot elevations of **160, 190, 250, 255, 259, 299, 306, 320, 385, 389, 421, 430, 545, 641, 677, 725, 862, 887, 894 and 1,085 ft**. Their geographic placement still requires a complete text description.

Chart **SSYII23-183**, revised **12 June 2025**, from the fixed publication cycle effective **3 September 2026**.
