# GLS approach to Sydney runway 25

> GLS approach to Sydney runway 25.

## Set up the approach

Select **GLS channel 21557**, identifier **G25A**, with final approach course **242°**. Distances are to **RW25**, the runway threshold. Aircraft may be radar vectored to final approach.

## Final approach

The profile shows a **3,000 ft** level segment into **JELLI**, **9.8 NM from RW25**, followed by a **3° glidepath on 242°**. Pass **PEGBA**, **4.8 NM from RW25**, at a path altitude of **1,610 ft**. Threshold crossing height is **48 ft**.

| Distance to RW25 | Altitude on the 3° path |
| - | - |
| 9.2 NM | 3,000 ft |
| 9 NM | 2,930 ft |
| 8 NM | 2,620 ft |
| 7 NM | 2,300 ft |
| 6 NM | 1,980 ft |
| 4.8 NM, PEGBA | 1,610 ft |
| 4 NM | 1,340 ft |
| 3 NM | 1,020 ft |
| 2 NM | 700 ft |
| 1 NM | 390 ft |
| 0.5 NM | 230 ft |

## Straight-in minima

For categories **A, B, C and D/DL**, the GLS decision altitude is **230 ft**, a **210 ft** height above threshold. Required visibility is **1.5 km**, with **1,500 m runway visual range (RVR)** printed on the chart.

## Missed approach

Track **242°** and climb to **3,000 ft**, or as directed by ATC.

## Speeds and holding

Cross **JELLI at no more than 185 kt indicated airspeed** and **PEGBA at no less than 150 kt**. The chart’s ATC approach speed ranges are **160–185 kt at JELLI** and **150–160 kt at PEGBA**. Holding is as directed by ATC; the chart does not specify a holding pattern.

## Circling and alternate minima

Do not circle **beyond 3 DME from SY, east of runway 16R and north of runway 25**. The distance for this restriction is from **SY DME**, not the runway threshold or the approach’s distance reference.

| Aircraft category | Circling minimum altitude | Height above aerodrome | Visibility | Alternate ceiling / visibility |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| A and B | 790 ft | 769 ft | 2.4 km | 1,269 ft / 4.4 km |
| C | 1,000 ft | 979 ft | 4.0 km | 1,479 ft / 6.0 km |
| D/DL | 1,000 ft | 979 ft | 5.0 km | 1,479 ft / 7.0 km |

## Frequencies

All radio frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 118.55 |
| Approach north | 124.4 |
| Approach south | 128.3 |
| Director east | 125.3 |
| Director west | 126.1 |
| Tower | 120.5 |
| Surface movement east of runway 16R/34L | 121.7 |
| Surface movement west of runway 16R/34L | 126.5 |

## Terrain and chart conventions

Use **QNH**. Altitudes and elevations are feet above mean sea level; tracks are magnetic. The chart shows **13° east** magnetic variation and a **1:500,000** map scale. Aerodrome elevation is **21 ft** and runway 25 threshold elevation is **20 ft**.

The **25 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,700 ft** and the **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 2,100 ft**, both centred on the **YSSY aerodrome reference point**.

The map’s labelled obstacle and spot elevations are **160, 190, 250, 255, 299, 306, 320, 385, 389, 421, 426, 430, 545, 641, 677, 725, 862, 887, 894, 1,001, 1,074 and 1,085 ft**. Their geographic placement still requires a complete text description.

Chart **SSYGL04-187**, revised **9 July 2026**, from the fixed publication cycle effective **3 September 2026**.
