# Sydney aerodrome lighting

> Sydney aerodrome lighting.

This page accompanies the [Sydney aerodrome layout](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/sydney/charts/aerodrome-layout.md). Aerodrome elevation is **21 ft**, at **33°56′46″ S, 151°10′38″ E**. Bearings are magnetic and elevations are feet above mean sea level.

## Runway lighting and PAPI

Every runway has a **3.0° precision approach path indicator (PAPI)**. The heights below are the values printed in the lighting table, not decision heights.

The abbreviations mean:

| Label | Meaning |

| HIRL / MIRL | High- / medium-intensity runway lighting |
| HIAL | High-intensity approach lighting |
| CAT I / CAT II | Category I / Category II provision printed for that lighting system |
| SA CAT II | Special-authorization Category II provision |
| RTZL | Runway touchdown-zone lighting |
| RCLL | Runway centreline lighting |
| RCLM | Runway centreline markings |
| RTIL | Runway threshold identification lights |
| RVR | Runway visual range provision |

## Taxiway lighting and standby supply

Taxiway **centreline lights are green** and **edge lights are blue**. Stop bars and **flashing yellow runway guard lights** are listed.

Runway lighting is manually operated. Standby changeover is **1 second during low-visibility procedures**, and **15 seconds at other times**.

All frequencies below are MHz. Select the surface-movement and tower frequency for the relevant part of the airport.
