# Melbourne RNP runway 34

> Melbourne RNP runway 34.

## Requirements and speed limits

Use **QNH**. This is an **RNP approach**. For **LNAV/VNAV**, use **YMML QNH and YMML temperature**; the procedure temperature range is **−5°C to +60°C**. **Holding is not available**.

Maximum indicated airspeed at **AKDEL is 185 kt**. The chart lists ATC approach-speed ranges of **160–185 kt at AKDEL** and **150–160 kt at 5 NM from the threshold**.

## Route and descent

1. Enter at **AKDEL**, the initial/intermediate approach fix, **at or above 2,500 ft**, **9 NM before RW34**. The diagram shows PORTS arrivals via ESLOK, ARBEY and ALAXO arrivals via OBGAL, and BOYSE, BOOIN and RAZZI arrivals via BOLTY.
2. Track **340° for 5 NM to BOSGI**, the final approach fix. The **3° descent path** starts from **2,500 ft**, **2.7 NM before BOSGI**, and passes BOSGI at **1,650 ft**.
3. Continue on **340° for 4 NM to RW34**, the missed-approach point at the threshold. RW34 is a **fly-over waypoint**.

The profile gives a **1,500 ft step-down minimum before BOSGI**. After BOSGI, descend to the applicable minimum. The threshold elevation is **330 ft** and threshold crossing height is **50 ft**.

### Three-degree descent checks

Distances before BOSGI are **to BOSGI**; subsequent distances are **to RW34**.

| Reference | Distance | Path altitude |
| - | - | - |
| BOSGI | 2.7 NM before | 2,500 ft |
| BOSGI | 2 NM before | 2,290 ft |
| BOSGI | 1 NM before | 1,970 ft |
| BOSGI | At waypoint | 1,650 ft |
| RW34 | 3 NM before | 1,340 ft |
| RW34 | 2 NM before | 1,020 ft |
| RW34 | 1.3 NM before | 780 ft |
| RW34 | 1 NM before | 690 ft |

## Straight-in minima

These minima apply to categories **A–D**. Altitudes are feet above mean sea level; heights are above the runway threshold.

| Capability | Minimum altitude | Height | Visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| LNAV/VNAV | 690 ft | 360 ft | 2.0 km |
| LNAV | 780 ft | 450 ft | 2.5 km |

## Missed approach

Fly **direct to ML2SH**, **3 NM beyond RW34**, then track **340°**. **Climb to 4,000 ft, or as directed by ATC**.

## Circling and alternate minima

Circling altitudes are feet above mean sea level; the accompanying heights are above the **434 ft aerodrome elevation**. Visibility is kilometres.

| Aircraft category | Circling altitude | Circling height / visibility | Alternate ceiling / visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| A and B | 1,140 ft | 706 ft / 2.4 km | 1,206 ft / 4.4 km |
| C | 1,450 ft | 1,016 ft / 4.0 km | 1,516 ft / 6.0 km |
| D | 1,600 ft | 1,166 ft / 5.0 km | 1,666 ft / 7.0 km |

## Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 114.1 or 118.0 |
| Approach | 132.0 |
| Tower | 120.5 |
| Surface movement | 121.7 |

## Sector altitudes and map reference

The **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 3,300 ft**. The **25 NM MSA**, centred on the **YMML aerodrome reference point**, is **4,500 ft in the northern sector** and **3,700 ft in the southern sector**. Boundaries are labelled **B-080° on the west side** and **B-260° on the east side**.

Bearings are magnetic, with **12° east variation**. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. The map scale is **1:500,000**, with a **0–5 NM scale bar**. It covers labelled grid lines **37°40′–37°50′ S** and **144°40′–145°00′ E**. **YMEN is Essendon Airport**, south-east of Melbourne.

The map prints these terrain and obstacle elevations, in feet: **1,598; 1,600; 1,468; 949; 1,021; 830; 920; 687; 655; 1,007; 935; 808; 948; 817; 945; 691; 706; 775; 526; 564; 552; 573; 1,041; 772; 697; 1,096; 657; 512**. Their geographic positions have not yet been fully transcribed into this text.
