# Melbourne RNP P runway 16 — authorization required

> Melbourne RNP P runway 16 — authorization required.

## Authorization and equipment

This **required navigation performance (RNP) approach requires authorization (AR)**. It is for operators approved by **Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA)**. It requires **radius-to-fix (RF) capability**, **local QNH** and **local temperature**. Use **QNH**; the procedure temperature range is **−2°C to +48°C**. Holding is **as directed by ATC**.

ATC approach-speed ranges are **160–185 kt at 10 NM from the threshold** and **150–160 kt at 5 NM from the threshold**.

## Route from EMSEK

The map shows the **ALAXO arrival via PASCO to EMSEK**. **Maximum indicated airspeed at SUSAK is 190 kt**.

| From | Path | To | Leg length | Altitude or restriction |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| EMSEK, initial approach fix | Track 345° | SUSAK, intermediate fix | 3.8 NM | Maintain the 3,000 ft segment minimum; SUSAK maximum 190 kt |
| SUSAK | Left RF turn, 2.9 NM arc radius | AREXO, final approach fix | 5.5 NM along arc | Maintain 3,000 ft to AREXO |
| AREXO | Left RF turn, 3.4 NM arc radius | ML420 | 4.6 NM along arc | Descend on the 3° path; 1,530 ft at ML420 |
| ML420 | Track 160° | RW16, missed-approach point | 3.3 NM | Continue to the applicable approach minimum |

Cross **EMSEK at or above 3,000 ft**. The profile distances remaining to RW16 are **17.2 NM at EMSEK**, **13.4 NM at SUSAK**, **7.9 NM at AREXO** and **3.3 NM at ML420**. These include the curved route, not direct distance to the threshold. **RW16 is a fly-over waypoint**.

## Three-degree descent checks

Begin the **3° descent at AREXO, at 3,000 ft**. The first four distances below are **to ML420 along the curved path**. After ML420, distances are **to RW16**. Threshold elevation is **432 ft**.

| Reference | Distance | Path altitude |
| - | - | - |
| AREXO | At waypoint | 3,000 ft |
| ML420 | 4 NM before | 2,800 ft |
| ML420 | 3 NM before | 2,490 ft |
| ML420 | 2 NM before | 2,170 ft |
| ML420 | 1 NM before | 1,850 ft |
| ML420 | At waypoint | 1,530 ft |
| RW16 | 3 NM before | 1,440 ft |
| RW16 | 2 NM before | 1,120 ft |
| RW16 | 1.1 NM before | 820 ft |

## Straight-in minima

For categories **A–D**, choose the row matching the approved RNP capability. Altitudes are feet above mean sea level and heights are above threshold.

| Approved RNP | Minimum altitude | Height | Visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| 0.3 | 890 ft | 458 ft | 1.7 km |
| 0.11 | 820 ft | 388 ft | 1.3 km |

## Missed approach

Track **160° to ML430**, **8 NM beyond RW16**, then continue on **160°**. **Climb to 4,000 ft, or as directed by ATC**.

## Circling and alternate minima

**Circling is not authorized.** The chart gives these alternate ceiling and visibility values:

| Aircraft category | Alternate ceiling | Visibility |
| - | - | - |
| A and B | 1,206 ft | 4.4 km |
| C | 1,516 ft | 6.0 km |
| D | 1,666 ft | 7.0 km |

## Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 114.1 or 118.0 |
| Approach | 132.0 |
| Tower | 120.5 |
| Surface movement | 121.7 |

## Sector altitudes and map reference

The **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 3,300 ft**. The **25 NM MSA**, centred on the **YMML aerodrome reference point**, is **4,500 ft in the northern sector** and **3,700 ft in the southern sector**. Boundaries are labelled **R-260° on the west side** and **R-080° on the east side**, although the centre is labelled YMML ARP on this sheet.

Bearings are magnetic, with **12° east variation**. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. The map scale is **1:500,000**, with a **0–5 NM scale bar**. It covers labelled grid lines **37°30′–37°50′ S** and **144°40′–145°00′ E**. **YMEN is Essendon Airport**, south-east of Melbourne.

The map prints these terrain and obstacle elevations, in feet: **2,195; 1,604; 1,598; 1,600; 1,468; 949; 1,021; 830; 655; 920; 687; 1,224; 1,171; 906; 1,007; 948; 817; 935; 808; 775; 706; 945; 691; 564; 526; 552; 573; 1,041; 772; 697; 1,096; 657**. Their geographic positions have not yet been fully transcribed into this text.
