# PORTS Eight Alpha arrival

> PORTS Eight Alpha arrival.

This **RNP 1** arrival uses magnetic tracks and distances in nautical miles (NM). Altitudes are feet above mean sea level. Maximum indicated airspeed (IAS) is **250 kt below 10,000 ft**, with the additional runway-specific speeds below.

The route tables keep **segment minimum altitudes** separate from **waypoint crossing restrictions**. Distances are for each leg.

## Transition to PORTS

Choose the cleared transition, then follow the runway branch below. Both transitions require **PORTS at or below 9,000 ft**.

| Transition | From | Track | To | Distance | Segment minimum altitude | Crossing restriction |
| - | - | - | - | - | - | - |
| TASIS | TASIS | 272° | EKKAS | 34 NM | 4,400 ft | EKKAS at or above 9,000 ft |
| TASIS | EKKAS | 273° | PORTS | 14 NM | 3,700 ft | PORTS at or below 9,000 ft |
| ONAGI | ONAGI | 297° | LATTA | 33 NM | 3,700 ft | LATTA at or above 9,000 ft |
| ONAGI | LATTA | 297° | PORTS | 10 NM | 3,700 ft | PORTS at or below 9,000 ft |

The chart depicts **right-turn holds at TASIS, inbound 281°, and ONAGI, inbound 319°**. It does not print holding altitudes or leg times.

## Runway 09

Fly **230 kt IAS from MISCH**, then **no more than 185 kt from GUPUG**. The chart’s ATC approach-speed range at **GUPUG is 160–185 kt**.

| From | Track | To | Distance | Segment minimum altitude | Crossing restriction |
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
| PORTS | 313° | KEVEK | 14 NM | 3,900 ft | KEVEK between 5,000 and 6,000 ft |
| KEVEK | 314° | MISCH | 5 NM | 3,900 ft | — |
| MISCH | 281° | RIPMO | 9 NM | 4,000 ft | — |
| RIPMO | 012° | AVPIX | 4 NM | 4,000 ft | AVPIX at or above 4,000 ft |
| AVPIX | 083° | GUPUG | 3 NM | 3,000 ft | GUPUG between 3,000 and 4,000 ft |

Turn **right at PORTS**, **left at MISCH**, **right at RIPMO** and **right at AVPIX**. From GUPUG, continue via the cleared [GLS runway 09](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/gls-runway-09.md) or [RNP runway 09](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/rnp-runway-09.md) approach.

## Runway 34

Fly **230 kt IAS from PORTS**, then **no more than 185 kt from AKDEL**. The chart’s ATC approach-speed range at **AKDEL is 160–185 kt**.

| From | Track | To | Distance | Segment minimum altitude | Crossing restriction |
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
| PORTS | 340° | ATOKU | 3 NM | 3,000 ft | ATOKU at or above 5,000 ft |
| ATOKU | 340° | ESLOK | 6 NM | 3,000 ft | ESLOK at or above 3,000 ft |
| ESLOK | 340° | AKDEL | 3 NM | 2,500 ft | — |

Turn **right at PORTS**. From AKDEL, continue via the cleared [GLS runway 34](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/gls-runway-34.md) or [RNP runway 34](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/rnp-runway-34.md) approach.

**Identify Melbourne runway 34 by its runway threshold identification lights. Essendon Airport is 5 NM south-east of ML.**

## Radio failure in instrument conditions

Set transponder code **7600**. Comply with the vertical-navigation requirements, but **do not descend below the minimum sector altitude**. Follow the latest arrival clearance to the nominated runway, then fly the most suitable approach.

## Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 114.1 or 118.0 |
| Approach / departure | 129.4 |
| Tower | 120.5 |
| Surface movement | 121.7 |

## Sector altitudes and chart conventions

The **10 NM minimum sector altitude (MSA) is 3,300 ft**. The **25 NM MSA**, centred on the **YMML aerodrome reference point**, is **4,500 ft in the northern sector** and **3,700 ft in the southern sector**. The boundaries are labelled **B-080° on the west side** and **B-260° on the east side**; these are bearing labels, not VOR radials.

The diagram uses **12° east magnetic variation** and is **not to scale**. **YMEN** identifies nearby Essendon Airport.

Chart **MMLSR03-184**, revised **4 September 2025**, from the fixed publication cycle effective **3 September 2026**.
