# Melbourne ILS-Y or localizer-Y runway 27

> Melbourne ILS-Y or localizer-Y runway 27.

## Navigation setup

Use **QNH**. Tune **IMW ILS/DME to 109.3 MHz**, with a **263° inbound localizer course** and **3° glidepath**. **ML VOR/DME is 114.1 MHz**.

This **Y procedure uses ML DME distances**. DME or GNSS is required; **GNSS may replace DME with ML VOR as the reference waypoint**. The [Z procedure](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/ils-z-or-loc-z-runway-27.md) uses different DME distances and equipment requirements.

## Approach and descent

Enter at **VISAS at or above 2,500 ft**, **8.8 NM ML DME / 8.5 NM from the threshold**. Follow **263°**. The glidepath passes **MATKU at 1,670 ft**, **4.1 NM ML DME / 3.8 NM from the threshold**. The runway threshold elevation is **407 ft** and reference datum height is **53 ft**.

For the **localizer-only approach**, retain these step-down minima:

| Position or interval | Localizer requirement |
| - | - |
| VISAS to 7 NM ML DME | 2,000 ft minimum, after the 2,500 ft VISAS requirement |
| 7 NM ML DME to MATKU at 4.1 NM ML DME | 1,250 ft minimum |
| After MATKU | Descend to the 880 ft minimum descent altitude |
| Missed-approach point | 0.9 NM ML DME, 0.6 NM before the threshold |

The profile also labels **7 NM ML DME as 6.7 NM from the threshold**. Do not substitute the IMW DME values from the Z procedure.

### Three-degree descent checks

Every distance in this table is **to ML DME**.

| Distance | Path altitude |
| - | - |
| 6.7 NM | 2,500 ft |
| 6 NM | 2,270 ft |
| 5 NM | 1,960 ft |
| 4.1 NM | 1,670 ft |
| 3 NM | 1,320 ft |
| 2 NM | 1,000 ft |
| 1.6 NM | 880 ft |

## Holding and speeds

Hold at **VISAS**, inbound **263°**, with **left turns**, **one-minute legs**, a minimum altitude of **3,000 ft** and a **14 NM DME limit**. The holding-entry diagram labels **083°, 153° and 333°**.

Maximum indicated airspeed at **VISAS is 185 kt**. ATC approach-speed ranges are **160–185 kt at VISAS** and **150–160 kt at 5 NM from the threshold**.

## Straight-in minima

These minima apply to categories **A, B, C and D/Dₗ**. Altitudes are feet above mean sea level; heights are above the **407 ft runway threshold**.

| Approach | Minimum altitude | Height | Published visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| ILS | 610 ft | 203 ft | 0.8 km; 550 m runway visual range (RVR) |
| Localizer | 880 ft | 473 ft | 1.9 km |

The chart also prints **special alternate minima of 700 ft / 2.5 km**. These are separate from the standard alternate entries below; the sheet does not state the conditions for using them. Those applicability conditions remain to be added to this draft.

## Missed approach

Track **263°** and **climb to 4,000 ft, or as directed by ATC**. For the localizer approach, use the missed-approach point specified in the descent profile above.

## Circling and alternate minima

Circling altitudes are feet above mean sea level; the accompanying heights are above the **434 ft aerodrome elevation**. Visibility is kilometres.

| Aircraft category | Circling altitude | Circling height / visibility | Alternate ceiling / visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| A and B | 1,140 ft | 706 ft / 2.4 km | 1,206 ft / 4.4 km |
| C | 1,450 ft | 1,016 ft / 4.0 km | 1,516 ft / 6.0 km |
| D/Dₗ | 1,600 ft | 1,166 ft / 5.0 km | 1,666 ft / 7.0 km |

## Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 114.1 or 118.0 |
| Approach | 132.0 |
| Tower | 120.5 |
| Surface movement | 121.7 |

## Sector altitudes and map reference

The **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 3,300 ft**. The **25 NM MSA**, centred on **ML VOR**, is **4,500 ft in the northern sector** and **3,700 ft in the southern sector**. Boundaries are labelled **R-260° on the west side** and **R-080° on the east side**.

Bearings are magnetic, with **12° east variation**. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. The map scale is **1:500,000**, with a **0–5 NM scale bar**. It covers labelled grid lines **37°30′–37°50′ S** and **144°40′–145°00′ E**. **YMEN is Essendon Airport**, south-east of Melbourne.

The map shows ARBEY arrivals via DOKNO, BOYSE from the north-east, BOOIN from the east, RAZZI from the south-east and ALAXO via ROCEL.

It prints these terrain and obstacle elevations, in feet: **1,604; 1,600; 1,468; 949; 1,021; 830; 655; 920; 687; 1,224; 1,171; 906 (two locations); 948; 1,007; 935; 775; 808; 706; 945; 817; 691; 564; 526; 552; 573; 1,041; 772; 697; 1,096; 657; 732**. Their geographic positions have not yet been fully transcribed into this text.
