# Melbourne GLS runway 09

> Melbourne GLS runway 09.

## Approach setup and speed limits

Select **GLS channel 21118**, identifier **G09A**. The final approach track is **083°**, with a **3° glidepath**. Holding is **as directed by ATC**.

Maximum indicated airspeed at **GUPUG is 185 kt**. The chart lists ATC approach-speed ranges of **160–185 kt at GUPUG** and **150–160 kt at 5 NM from the threshold**.

## Route and glidepath

Enter at **GUPUG between 3,000 and 4,000 ft**, **11 NM from RW09**. The chart shows ALAXO and PORTS arrivals joining from the west, and BOOIN, BOYSE, RAZZI and ARBEY arrivals joining from the north.

Follow the **083° course and 3° glidepath**. Cross **PAPGA at 1,800 ft**, **4.3 NM from RW09**. The runway threshold has elevation **395 ft** and crossing height **50 ft**.

### Three-degree glidepath checks

All distances below are **to RW09**, the runway threshold reference.

| Distance | Path altitude |
| - | - |
| 8 NM | 3,000 ft |
| 7 NM | 2,670 ft |
| 6 NM | 2,360 ft |
| 5 NM | 2,040 ft |
| 4 NM | 1,720 ft |
| 3 NM | 1,400 ft |
| 2 NM | 1,080 ft |
| 1 NM | 760 ft |
| 0.5 NM | 600 ft |

## Straight-in minimum

For categories **A, B, C and D/Dₗ**, the GLS minimum is **600 ft above mean sea level**, a **205 ft height above threshold**, with **1.5 km visibility**.

## Missed approach

Track **083°** and **climb to 4,000 ft, or as directed by ATC**.

## Circling and alternate minima

Circling altitudes are feet above mean sea level; the accompanying heights are above the **434 ft aerodrome elevation**. Visibility is kilometres.

| Aircraft category | Circling altitude | Circling height / visibility | Alternate ceiling / visibility |
| - | - | - | - |
| A and B | 1,140 ft | 706 ft / 2.4 km | 1,206 ft / 4.4 km |

## Sector altitudes and map reference

The **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 3,300 ft**. The **25 NM MSA**, centred on the **YMML aerodrome reference point**, is **4,500 ft in the northern sector** and **3,700 ft in the southern sector**. Boundaries are labelled **B-080° on the west side** and **B-260° on the east side**.

Bearings are magnetic, with **12° east variation**. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. The map scale is **1:500,000**, with a **0–5 NM scale bar**. It covers labelled grid lines **37°30′–37°50′ S** and **144°40′–145°00′ E**. **YMEN is Essendon Airport**, south-east of Melbourne.

The map prints these terrain and obstacle elevations, in feet: **1,598; 1,600; 1,468; 949; 1,021; 830; 920; 687; 655; 1,007; 775; 935; 808; 706; 948; 1,171; 564; 526; 552; 573; 1,041; 772; 1,096; 657**. Their geographic positions have not yet been fully transcribed into this text.
