# ARBEY Eight Alpha arrival to runways 09 and 16

> ARBEY Eight Alpha arrival to runways 09 and 16.

This **RNP 1** arrival uses magnetic tracks and distances in nautical miles (NM). Altitudes are feet above mean sea level. Maximum indicated airspeed (IAS) is **250 kt below 10,000 ft**, with the additional runway-specific speeds below.

The route tables keep **segment minimum altitudes** separate from **waypoint crossing restrictions**. Distances are for each leg.

## Common route to TUNKA

Cross **ARBEY at or above 8,000 ft**. Track **156° for 10 NM to TUNKA**; the segment minimum altitude is **4,500 ft**. Cross **TUNKA between 5,000 and 9,000 ft**, then follow the branch for your cleared runway.

## Runway 09

Fly **230 kt IAS from DABUX**, then **no more than 185 kt from GUPUG**. The chart’s ATC approach-speed range at **GUPUG is 160–185 kt**.

| From | Track | To | Distance | Segment minimum altitude | Crossing restriction |
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
| TUNKA | 188° | DABUX | 6 NM | 4,500 ft | — |
| DABUX | 202° | OPAVA | 7 NM | 3,000 ft | OPAVA at or below 6,000 ft |
| OPAVA | 215° | UPKAN | 3 NM | 3,000 ft | UPKAN at or above 4,000 ft |
| UPKAN | 173° | GUPUG | 4 NM | 3,000 ft | GUPUG between 3,000 and 4,000 ft |

Turn **right at TUNKA**, **right at DABUX**, **right at OPAVA** and **left at UPKAN**. From GUPUG, follow the cleared [GLS runway 09](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/gls-runway-09.md) or [RNP runway 09](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/rnp-runway-09.md) approach.

## Runway 16

Fly **230 kt IAS from TUNKA**, then **no more than 185 kt from BELTA**. The chart’s ATC approach-speed range at **BELTA is 160–185 kt**.

| From | Track | To | Distance | Segment minimum altitude | Crossing restriction |
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
| TUNKA | 160° | LASOL | 5 NM | 3,100 ft | LASOL at or above 4,000 ft |
| LASOL | 160° | BELTA | 3 NM | 3,000 ft | — |

From BELTA, follow the cleared [GLS runway 16](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/gls-runway-16.md), [RNP Z runway 16](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/rnp-z-runway-16.md), [ILS-Y/localizer-Y runway 16](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/ils-y-or-loc-y-runway-16.md) or [ILS-Z/localizer-Z runway 16](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/melbourne/charts/ils-z-or-loc-z-runway-16-part-1.md). The source specifies **RNP Z**, not the authorization-required RNP P branch.

## Radio failure in instrument conditions

Set transponder code **7600**. Comply with the vertical-navigation requirements, but **do not descend below the minimum sector altitude**. Follow the latest arrival clearance to the nominated runway, then fly the most suitable approach.

## Frequencies

All frequencies are MHz.

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 114.1 or 118.0 |
| Approach / departure | 118.9 or 132.0 |
| Tower | 120.5 |
| Surface movement | 121.7 |

## Sector altitudes and chart conventions

The **10 NM minimum sector altitude (MSA) is 3,300 ft**. The **25 NM MSA**, centred on the **YMML aerodrome reference point**, is **4,500 ft in the northern sector** and **3,700 ft in the southern sector**. The boundaries are labelled **B-080° on the west side** and **B-260° on the east side**; these are bearing labels, not VOR radials.

The diagram uses **12° east magnetic variation** and is **not to scale**. **YMEN** identifies nearby Essendon Airport.

Chart **MMLSR11-183**, revised **12 June 2025**, from the fixed publication cycle effective **3 September 2026**.
