# Canberra VOR runway 35

> Canberra VOR runway 35.

This is the **VOR approach to runway 35**, using **CB VOR/DME, 116.7 MHz**. **Use QNH. CB DME is required**, but GNSS may substitute for DME using **CB VOR as the reference waypoint**. Aerodrome elevation is **1,887 ft**; runway 35 threshold elevation is **1,869 ft**.

## Entry and outbound procedure

Aircraft may be radar-vectored to an initial approach fix. MENZI is at **14.9 CB DME**, with **5,400 ft** shown in the profile. MOMBI is at **12 CB DME**, with **5,100 ft** shown. Use the applicable entry or holding clearance.

For the outbound procedure from CB, the chart uses different tracks by aircraft category:

| Categories | Outbound track | Turn point |
| - | -: | - |
| A and B | 160° | 12 CB DME, then right turn to intercept inbound |
| C and D | 152° | 12 CB DME, then right turn to intercept inbound |

The inbound final approach track is **348°**. An aircraft holding at MOMBI may commence descent **once established inbound on the approach**.

## Final descent profile

The glide-path reference is **3°**. Keep all distances referenced to **CB DME**, not to the runway threshold.

| Position | Minimum altitude |
| - | -: |
| MENZI, 14.9 CB | 5,400 ft |
| MOMBI, 12 CB | 5,100 ft |
| 11 CB | 4,000 ft |
| 9 CB | 3,500 ft |
| 7 CB | 3,000 ft |
| After 5.4 CB | Apply the 2,880 ft straight-in minimum |
| 2 CB | Missed-approach point |

The profile places the runway 35 threshold at **2 CB DME**. Thus 5.4, 7, 9, 11, 12 and 14.9 CB correspond respectively to **3.4, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12.9 NM before the threshold**.

| Distance to CB DME | Altitude on the 3° path, ft |
| -: | -: |
| 5 | 2,880 |
| 5.4 | 3,000 |
| 6 | 3,190 |
| 7 | 3,510 |
| 8 | 3,830 |
| 9 | 4,150 |
| 10 | 4,470 |
| 11 | 4,790 |
| 12 | 5,100 |
| 12.9 | 5,400 |

## Missed approach

At **2 CB DME**, **turn right to intercept CB radial 005°**. Climb to **5,100 ft**, or as directed by ATC. Maximum IAS during the missed-approach turn is **230 kt**.

## Holding

| Holding fix | Inbound track | Turns | Time | Minimum altitude | DME limit | Maximum IAS stated |
| - | -: | - | - | -: | - | - |
| CB VOR | 152° | Left | 1 minute | 5,100 ft | None printed | None in the holding note |
| MOMBI | 348° | Right | No time printed | 5,100 ft | 14 CB | 170 kt |
| MOMBI | 348° | Right | 1 minute | 5,600 ft | None printed | 210 kt |

The holding entry-sector diagrams label **042°, 222°, 332°** at CB and **168°, 278°, 098°** at MOMBI. These are entry-sector references, not additional approach legs.

## Minima

Altitudes are feet AMSL; heights are the published heights. Visibility is kilometres.

| Procedure | Categories | Minimum altitude | Height | Visibility |
| - | - | -: | -: | -: |
| Straight-in VOR/DME | A–D | 2,880 | 1,011 | 4.9 |
| Circling | A–B | 3,350 | 1,463 | 2.4 |
| Circling | C | 3,580 | 1,693 | 4.0 |
| Circling | D | 3,720 | 1,833 | 5.0 |

The alternate row prints **height–visibility** pairs: A/B **1,963 ft–4.4 km**, C **2,193 ft–6.0 km**, D **2,333 ft–7.0 km**. **No circling beyond 4 NM west of runway 17/35.**

## Frequencies

| Service | Frequency |

| AWIS, after hours | 116.7 MHz |
| Surface movement / airways clearance | 121.7 MHz |

## Sector altitudes and chart conventions

The **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 5,100 ft**. The 25 NM diagram is centred on **CB VOR or NDB**: the northern/eastern sector between **R-305° and R-070°** is **4,600 ft**, the southern sector between **R-070° and R-255°** is **7,500 ft**, and the western sector between **R-255° and R-305°** is **5,900 ft**.

Bearings are magnetic; elevations are feet AMSL. Magnetic variation is **12° east**. The plan-view scale is **1:500,000**, with a **0–5 NM** bar.

## Restricted areas shown

The map labels R450A from the surface to **3,500 ft**, R450B from **3,500 to 4,500 ft**, and R450C from **4,500 to 8,000 ft**. These are the depicted vertical limits; the chart does not state whether an area is active during your run.

## Terrain and map labels

The source labels the following spot elevations; their positions and obstacle symbols still require a complete text description:

* Near and north of the airport: 2,944; 2,880; 2,839; 3,004; 3,020; 3,311; 2,241; 2,506; 2,289; 2,425; 2,226; 2,667 ft.
* West of the approach: 2,565; 3,163; 2,810; 3,245 ft.
* Along and east of the approach: 2,604; 2,641; 3,543; 3,344; 3,671 ft.

The source’s colour note refers to chart specification notices; the operational restrictions, altitudes and minima are stated in text above. Published change: holding note.
