# Canberra noise abatement: departure rules

> Canberra noise abatement: departure rules.

This page continues the [runway 35 departure guidance](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/canberra/charts/noise-abatement-arrivals.md) and gives the departures required outside ATC operating hours. Read the [noise-abatement area and exceptions](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/canberra/charts/noise-abatement-area.md) with these procedures.

## Departures during ATC operating hours

| Runway | Published procedure |
| - | - |
| 17 | Aircraft normally receive **heading 180°** until clear of the noise-abatement area. |
| 30 | Available only when operationally required by the pilot in command. By day, when the aircraft can be flown in visual meteorological conditions below **4,500 ft**, the published minimum vectoring altitude, the normal assignment is **runway heading** until clear of the noise-abatement area. |
| 12 | Available only when operationally required by the pilot in command. |

## Departures outside ATC operating hours

The following runway 35 and 17 rules apply to **all aircraft above 5,700 kg maximum takeoff weight**:

| Runway | Initial track | When to turn onto the flight-plan route |
| - | - | - |
| 35 | **353° magnetic**, the radar SID initial track | At or above **5,000 ft**, turn left or right to intercept the route. |
| 17 | **168° magnetic**, the radar SID initial track | At or above **5,000 ft**, turn left or right to intercept the route. |

Outside ATC hours, runways **30 and 12** are available only when operationally required by the pilot in command.

The outside-hours tracks differ from the headings normally assigned during ATC hours. Keep the applicable procedure and operating period together.

This is chart **SCBNA04-129**, revised **17 November 2011**, retained in the fixed publication cycle effective **3 September 2026**.
