# Canberra noise abatement: arrivals and runway 35 departures

> Canberra noise abatement: arrivals and runway 35 departures.

These procedures distinguish arrivals during ATC operating hours from arrivals outside those hours. The [noise-abatement area and exceptions](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/canberra/charts/noise-abatement-area.md) apply alongside the runway-specific rules.

## Arrivals during ATC operating hours

| Landing runway | Published procedure |
| - | - |
| 35 | At night, jet aircraft are radar-vectored to become established on final no closer than **MOMBI**. |
| 17 | In visual meteorological conditions, aircraft on right base are radar-vectored to intercept final no closer than **4 NM CB DME**. |
| 30 | No specific noise-abatement arrival procedure. |
| 12 | Available only when operationally required by the pilot in command. In visual meteorological conditions, aircraft are radar-vectored to remain clear of the noise-abatement areas until established on final. |

## Arrivals outside ATC operating hours

| Landing runway | Published procedure |
| - | - |
| 35 or 17 | All IFR arrivals must conduct a **straight-in instrument approach**. Aircraft may use a DME arc to intercept the final approach track. |
| 30 | No specific noise-abatement arrival procedure. |
| 12 | Available only when operationally required by the pilot in command. |

## Runway 35 departures during ATC operating hours

ATC routes departing aircraft over less noise-sensitive areas. In some situations this includes aircraft below **5,700 kg maximum takeoff weight**.

For jet aircraft departing runway 35:

1. The normal assigned heading is **350°**.
2. Before a **right turn**, reach **4,500 ft**.
3. Before a **left turn**, pass **abeam Mount Majura**.

See [the remaining departure rules](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/canberra/charts/noise-abatement-departures.md) for runways 17, 30 and 12, and for departures outside ATC hours.

This is chart **SCBNA03-173**, revised **1 December 2022**, retained in the fixed publication cycle effective **3 September 2026**.
