# Canberra NDB-A approach

> Canberra NDB-A approach.

Use **QNH** and **CB NDB, 263 kHz**. This is a **circling approach**; no straight-in minima are supplied. Aerodrome elevation is **1,887 ft**. Maximum IAS is **185 kt** for both initial approach and holding.

## Outbound and inbound sequence

From CB NDB, use the **5,100 ft** profile reference and fly the category-specific outbound track and time:

| Categories | Outbound track | Outbound time |
| - | -: | - |
| A and B | 012° | 2 minutes |
| C and D | 024° | 1½ minutes |

The outbound profile shows **5,000 ft**, then **4,500 ft** at the left reversal onto **171° inbound**. Continue inbound to the applicable circling minimum. **CB NDB is the missed-approach point.** The chart explicitly marks its DME-distance/altitude table **not applicable**; do not substitute a DME descent table from another approach.

## Missed approach

Track **171°**. At **3,600 ft**, **turn left onto 020°** and continue climbing to **5,100 ft**, or as directed by ATC. Unlike the VOR runway 17 procedure, this sheet does not add a 6 DME condition to the turn.

## Holding at CB NDB

Inbound **354°**, **right turns**, **one-minute legs**, minimum **5,100 ft**; no DME limit is printed. The entry-sector diagram labels **104°, 174° and 284°**. Separation from R450C is **not assured when holding above the minimum altitude**.

## Circling and alternate minima

Altitudes are feet above mean sea level; heights and visibility reproduce the chart. Visibility is kilometres.

| Categories | Circling altitude, ft | Height, ft | Visibility, km | Alternate height–visibility |
| - | -: | -: | -: | - |
| A and B | 3,350 | 1,463 | 2.4 | 1,963 ft–4.4 km |
| C | 3,580 | 1,693 | 4.0 | 2,193 ft–6.0 km |
| D | 3,720 | 1,833 | 5.0 | 2,333 ft–7.0 km |

**No circling beyond 4 NM west of runway 17/35.**

## Frequencies

| Service | Frequency |
| - | - |
| ATIS | 116.7 MHz, 127.45 MHz, 263 kHz (NDB) |
| AWIS, after hours | 116.7 MHz |
| Surface movement / airways clearance | 121.7 MHz |
| Tower | 118.7 MHz |
| Approach | 124.5 MHz |
| Flight information, after hours | ML CEN 125.9 MHz |
| CTAF + AFRU, after hours | 118.7 MHz |
| AFRU + PAL, after hours | 118.7 MHz |

## Sector altitudes

The **10 NM minimum sector altitude is 5,100 ft**. The 25 NM diagram is centred on **CB NDB or VOR**: **4,600 ft** between **B-125° and B-250°**, **7,500 ft** between **B-250° and B-075°**, and **5,900 ft** between **B-075° and B-125°**. Retain these bearing labels rather than substituting the radial labels on the VOR chart.

## Restricted areas and map conventions

The map labels **R450A: surface–3,500 ft**, **R450B: 3,500–4,500 ft**, and **R450C: 4,500–8,000 ft**. These are vertical limits, not a statement that the areas are active. Bearings are magnetic, with **12° east** variation. Elevations are feet above mean sea level. Map scale is **1:500,000**, with a **0–5 NM** scale bar. The source colour note refers to specification notices; numerical restrictions and minima are reproduced in text here.

## Terrain labels

The source labels spot elevations of **2,944; 2,839; 2,880; 3,311; 2,241; 2,289; 2,425; 2,565; 2,506; 3,020; 2,226; 2,667; 2,810; 2,604; 2,641; 3,245; 3,543; 3,344; and 3,671 ft**. Their geographic positions and obstacle symbols have not yet been fully transcribed into this text.
