# Canberra Three radar departure

> Canberra Three radar departure.

The Canberra Three radar departure serves **runways 12, 17 and 35**. Maximum IAS is **250 kt below 10,000 ft**. Tracks and bearings are magnetic; elevations are feet AMSL. The drawing is not to scale and shows 12° E magnetic variation.

## Runway procedures

| Runway | Initial routing | Climb requirement | Turn to the assigned heading or track |
| - | - | - | - |
| 12 | Track **117°**. | **5.8% to 3,200 ft**, then **3.3%**. | At **3,200 ft**. |
| 17 | Track **168°**. | **4.9% to 4,800 ft**, then **3.3%**. | At **3,200 ft**, or **5,000 ft outside tower hours**. |
| 35 | **Not before the departure end of the runway**, turn right and track **353°**. | **6.8% to 3,400 ft**, then **3.3%**. | At **3,400 ft**, or **5,000 ft outside tower hours**; turn to the assigned heading. |

The chart’s starred note requires turns from the runway 17/35 initial track to be **not below 5,000 ft outside tower hours**, with a reference to the noise-abatement procedures. See [outside-hours departures](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/airports/canberra/charts/noise-abatement-departures.md). The turn altitude and the altitude to which the initial climb gradient applies are different requirements.

## Communication failure

On recognising communication failure:

1. Set transponder code **7600**.
2. Maintain the last assigned vector for **two minutes**. If necessary, climb to the minimum safe altitude to maintain terrain clearance.
3. Then proceed in accordance with the latest ATC route clearance acknowledged.

## Navigation and sector altitudes

The chart identifies **CB VOR/DME 116.7 MHz** and **CB NDB 263 kHz**. GNSS may replace DME using **CB VOR** as the reference waypoint.

The **10 NM MSA is 5,100 ft**. The 25 NM diagram uses CB VOR or NDB, or the YSCB aerodrome reference point. Its equivalent boundaries are **R-305° / B-125°**, **R-070° / B-250°**, and **R-255° / B-075°**. The northern/eastern sector is **4,600 ft**, the southern sector **7,500 ft**, and the western sector **5,900 ft**. Radial and bearing labels use different references; keep the selected reference with its diagram labels.
