# Go-around

> Go-around: conditions, actions and checks for the Boeing 737-800.

Use this procedure when discontinuing an approach or landing. Confirm each required aircraft state before acknowledging the corresponding checklist item.

## General

When a go-around is required, perform the procedure in the stated sequence. Push the takeoff/go-around (TO/GA) switch, select flaps 15 and verify a positive climb before the associated gear and mode control panel (MCP) checks. After flap retraction, select level change (LVL CHG) as stated.

Maintain the assigned flight-control response and follow the assigned missed-approach route, speeds and altitude. This procedure is not a general failure checklist.

For a subsequent approach, create a new phase record and verify the current configuration. Do not reuse completion evidence from the discontinued approach.

### 1. TO/GA — **Push**

When the stated condition is satisfied, push the assigned TO/GA switch once. Verify the resulting thrust and flight-mode indications.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Push
>
> **Verification:** Require the intended takeoff/go-around mode outcome for the configured aircraft.

### 2. Flaps lever — **15**

When the stated condition is satisfied, select 15. Verify the required lever detent and actual flap/slat configuration.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** 15
>
> **Verification:** Verify the chosen lever detent and the required actual flap/slat configuration.

### 3. At positive climb: Landing gear lever — **Up**

**Condition:** At positive climb.

When the stated condition is satisfied, select the landing gear lever UP. Verify the required lever position and gear indications.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **When:** At positive climb.
>
> **Expected response:** Up
>
> **Verification:** For DOWN, verify the required safe indications; for UP/OFF, require actual lever and gear-state evidence appropriate to that command.

### 4. At positive climb: MCP missed approach altitude — **Verify**

**Condition:** At positive climb.

Verify the assigned missed-approach altitude on the MCP at the stated condition. Verify the selected target independently of actual altitude.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **When:** At positive climb.
>
> **Expected response:** Verify
>
> **Verification:** Read back the selected missed-approach target in feet.

### 5. At positive climb: Flap lever — **As directed**

**Condition:** At positive climb.

When the stated condition is satisfied, select the directed flap detent. Verify the required lever detent and actual flap/slat configuration.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **When:** At positive climb.
>
> **Expected response:** As directed
>
> **Verification:** Verify the chosen lever detent and the required actual flap/slat configuration.

### 6. After flap retraction: Pitch mode — **LVL CHG**

**Condition:** After flap retraction.

After the required flap retraction, select LVL CHG and verify the active pitch mode and approved targets.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **When:** After flap retraction.
>
> **Expected response:** LVL CHG
>
> **Verification:** Require actual LVL CHG engagement and the intended targets.

## Continue after this procedure

Continue along the selected chart’s missed-approach route and altitude instructions. If cleared for another approach, return to [Approach](https://www.narev.ai/docs/irl-gym/aircraft/procedures/approach.md) and establish a new checklist phase record. The source checklist does not prescribe a single next procedure for every missed approach.
