# First officer preflight — part 5

> First officer preflight — part 5: conditions, actions and checks for the Boeing 737-800.

Use this procedure when its prerequisites apply. Confirm each required aircraft state before acknowledging the corresponding checklist item.

## General

Complete the preliminary, CDU, captain and first-officer procedures in the applicable ground configuration. Retain the side-specific requirements. A captain instrument or control does not satisfy an independent first-officer or standby check.

Use the assigned detailed panel procedures for Set, Check, Test and Pass requirements. Observe the specified result and restore the required operating configuration after each actual cockpit test. Do not operate a system merely because its control appears in the reference list.

Complete loading, performance preparation and the required equipment checks before progressing to the dependent departure procedures. Where an item requires an external inspection or crew adjustment, retain the assigned verification or explicit scenario exclusion.

### 1. ENG display control — **Set**

Set the engine display controls according to the approved setup.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Require the intended display-selector state and display contents.

### 2. Engine instruments — **Check**

Check both engines against the applicable phase criteria, using valid engine indications.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Check
>
> **Verification:** Require valid readings and explicit limits/acceptance criteria for this phase.

### 3. Cargo fire panel — **Check**

Perform the approved cargo-fire panel inspection/test, rather than merely issuing its test action.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Check
>
> **Verification:** Require the specified cargo-fire test indications and restored state.

### 4. VHF NAV radios — **Set for departure**

Tune and verify the departure navigation radios using the configured conventional NAV or MMR receiver and approved frequencies/courses.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set for departure
>
> **Verification:** Verify the active receiver frequency and intended identification/course where available.

### 5. Audio control panel — **Set**

Apply the mission’s transmit/receive selections and volumes; do not assume a radio is audible from its frequency alone.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Verify requested audio selection and communication capability with the environment.

### 6. ADF radios — **Set**

Apply the approved ADF frequencies/selections for the mission only where required.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Verify actual active ADF frequency and indication.

### 7. Weather radar panel — **Set**

Set weather radar according to the approved phase/profile, distinguishing the radar’s actual operating mode from showing its overlay on the ND.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Read the radar operating mode and display state separately.

### 8. Transponder panel — **Set**

Set code and mode from the mission/clearance, then verify both. Code and mode are separate requirements.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Read back the actual code and mode; for explicit TA/RA or STBY select that named mode.

### 9. Stabilizer trim — **Guard closed**

Verify the stabilizer-trim guard required here; do not confuse this with entering takeoff trim.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Guard closed
>
> **Verification:** Observe the actual relevant guard.

## Continue after this procedure
