# First officer preflight — part 1

> First officer preflight — part 1: conditions, actions and checks for the Boeing 737-800.

Use this procedure when its prerequisites apply. Confirm each required aircraft state before acknowledging the corresponding checklist item.

## General

Complete the preliminary, CDU, captain and first-officer procedures in the applicable ground configuration. Retain the side-specific requirements. A captain instrument or control does not satisfy an independent first-officer or standby check.

Use the assigned detailed panel procedures for Set, Check, Test and Pass requirements. Observe the specified result and restore the required operating configuration after each actual cockpit test. Do not operate a system merely because its control appears in the reference list.

Complete loading, performance preparation and the required equipment checks before progressing to the dependent departure procedures. Where an item requires an external inspection or crew adjustment, retain the assigned verification or explicit scenario exclusion.

### 1. Flight control panel — **Check**

Inspect the required flight-control panel configuration using an approved detailed subprocedure.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Check
>
> **Verification:** Require the specified switch/guard states and panel indications.

### 2. Navigation panel — **Set**

Resolve the source selectors and navigation-panel setup from the approved configuration.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Observe each required selector state.

### 3. Display panel — **Set**

Apply the specified display-selection subprocedure and confirm the resulting display layout.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Observe selector positions and the target displays.

### 4. Fuel panel — **Set**

Resolve the required pump/crossfeed configuration from the approved fuel-panel subprocedure and actual tank loading.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Verify the specified pump positions and fuel distribution, with validated state decoding.

### 5. Electrical panel — **Set**

Use an approved electrical-panel subprocedure, confirming the intended source and bus configuration.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Require the applicable switch, source and on-bus indications.

### 6. Overheat panel — **Check**

Perform the required overheat-panel inspection/test using its approved acceptance sequence.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Check
>
> **Verification:** Observe the correct test outcomes and final switch state.

### 7. Fire protection panel — **Check**

Check/test the fire-protection panel according to an approved normal preflight subprocedure; do not arm/discharge extinguishers merely because those commands exist.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Check
>
> **Verification:** Require each prescribed test indication and restored state.

### 8. APU as needed — **Start**

Decide whether APU use is required for the chosen ground-power/air plan. Start only under a supplied and validated APU subprocedure.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Start
>
> **Verification:** Require APU running/available evidence and the requested electrical/air outcome.

### 9. Equipment cooling — **Norm**

Select the required NORM configuration for the applicable equipment-cooling switches.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** NORM
>
> **Verification:** Require switch-position evidence for both applicable controls.

## Continue after this procedure
