# Captain preflight — part 2

> Captain preflight — part 2: conditions, actions and checks for the Boeing 737-800.

Use this procedure when its prerequisites apply. Confirm each required aircraft state before acknowledging the corresponding checklist item.

## General

Complete the preliminary, CDU, captain and first-officer procedures in the applicable ground configuration. Retain the side-specific requirements. A captain instrument or control does not satisfy an independent first-officer or standby check.

Use the assigned detailed panel procedures for Set, Check, Test and Pass requirements. Observe the specified result and restore the required operating configuration after each actual cockpit test. Do not operate a system merely because its control appears in the reference list.

Complete loading, performance preparation and the required equipment checks before progressing to the dependent departure procedures. Where an item requires an external inspection or crew adjustment, retain the assigned verification or explicit scenario exclusion.

### 1. Light test — **Hold to 1**

Perform the specified cockpit light test using the proper test switch and acceptance criteria.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Hold to 1
>
> **Verification:** Observe the required indications during the test and their restoration afterward.

### 2. Light test — **Hold to 2**

Perform the specified cockpit light test using the proper test switch and acceptance criteria.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Hold to 2
>
> **Verification:** Observe the required indications during the test and their restoration afterward.

### 3. STAB OUT OF TRIM — **Extinguished**

Check this specific warning is extinguished.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Extinguished
>
> **Verification:** Observe STAB OUT OF TRIM directly.

### 4. Flight instruments — **Check**

Cross-check the applicable flight instruments for this phase using valid readings and mission data.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Check
>
> **Verification:** Use defined cross-check criteria and independent sources where the checklist calls for comparison.

### 5. Standby instruments — **Check**

Check the configured standby instruments independently of primary instruments.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Check
>
> **Verification:** Observe the actual standby display(s).

### 6. Standby RMI — **Set**

Resolve whether the RMI is fitted and apply the required setup where it is.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Observe the RMI settings/indications or a confirmed not-fitted configuration.

### 7. Speed brake lever — **Down detent**

Set the speedbrake lever to DOWN DETENT. Use the applicable lever-detent conversion and verify the required position.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Down detent
>
> **Verification:** Confirm the required lever detent and, for ARM, the separate SPEEDBRAKE ARMED indication.

### 8. Reverse thrust levers — **Down**

Verify the reversers are in the stated down/stowed condition.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Down
>
> **Verification:** Require reverser-lever/deployment evidence, not only a forward-throttle percentage.

### 9. Forward thrust levers — **Closed**

Set the forward thrust levers to the required closed condition through the validated throttle contract.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Closed
>
> **Verification:** Confirm both forward-lever positions and distinguish them from engine N1.

## Continue after this procedure
