# Captain preflight — part 1

> Captain preflight — part 1: conditions, actions and checks for the Boeing 737-800.

Use this procedure when its prerequisites apply. Confirm each required aircraft state before acknowledging the corresponding checklist item.

## General

Complete the preliminary, CDU, captain and first-officer procedures in the applicable ground configuration. Retain the side-specific requirements. A captain instrument or control does not satisfy an independent first-officer or standby check.

Use the assigned detailed panel procedures for Set, Check, Test and Pass requirements. Observe the specified result and restore the required operating configuration after each actual cockpit test. Do not operate a system merely because its control appears in the reference list.

Complete loading, performance preparation and the required equipment checks before progressing to the dependent departure procedures. Where an item requires an external inspection or crew adjustment, retain the assigned verification or explicit scenario exclusion.

### 1. Lights — **Test**

Perform the specified cockpit light test using the proper test switch and acceptance criteria.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Test
>
> **Verification:** Observe the required indications during the test and their restoration afterward.

### 2. EFIS control panel — **Set**

Set only the EFIS selections specified by the assigned mission and configuration; confirm the actual display mode and units.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Check the selected EFIS state and required displayed navigation information.

### 3. Mode control panel — **Set**

Set the assigned Mode Control Panel targets and switch selections. Verify each selected target and mode separately.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Read back each required target and switch separately.

### 4. Oxygen — **Test and set**

Carry out the approved mask test and setup for the side named by the section.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Test and set
>
> **Verification:** Require the test result and the prescribed final configuration.

### 5. Clock — **Set**

Resolve the required clock mode/time from the mission profile and observe the result.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Read the relevant clock display after any command.

### 6. Nose wheel steering — **Guard closed**

Verify the nosewheel-steering guard is closed. Establish steering authority separately before taxi.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Guard closed
>
> **Verification:** Confirm guard closure and the approved steering configuration.

### 7. Display select panel — **Set**

Apply the specified display-selection subprocedure and confirm the resulting display layout.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Set
>
> **Verification:** Observe selector positions and the target displays.

### 8. Takeoff config light — **Extinguished**

Require the takeoff-configuration light itself to be extinguished and observable.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Extinguished
>
> **Verification:** Use the dedicated light, with valid power/availability.

### 9. Cabin altitude light — **Extinguished**

Check the cabin-altitude warning light, not merely the numeric cabin altitude.

> **Checks and evidence**
>
> **Expected response:** Extinguished
>
> **Verification:** Require a valid, extinguished CABIN\_ALT annunciator observation.

## Continue after this procedure
